RICHTER, Vickie Vickie Richter
1931 – 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Anna Victoria Richter, announce the passing of their beautiful Mother on Saturday, November 15, 2025, just four days shy of her 94th birthday.
Vickie was born November 19, 1931 in Richmound, Saskatchewan, the eldest child of Joe and Minnie Miller. She grew up in Taber and on June 20, 1950, she married her sweetheart Manirod Richter and they were married almost fifty nine years before Manirod passed in 2009. The following year, they started their family with the birth of their first daughter Dianna, followed by Charlotte, Donna, Larry and Sherry. Vickie and Manirod lived in Taber, Bow Island and Picture Butte, with the final move to Lethbridge.
Manirod was moved to St. Michael’s in 2007, so Vickie set up residence at Martha’s House (Covenant Living) so she could just walk across the parking lot to see him. She truly enjoyed her fourteen years there until her health started to slowly decline and she made her final move to St. Therese Villa. She loved camping with her grandkids, trips to Disneyland and yearly trips to Kimberly, British Columbia for music and dancing. She joined a bridge club and was an accomplished player and enjoyed her weekly bingo.
Vickie was a true homemaker, a role she loved, if she wasn’t baking or cooking she would be gardening, canning, tending her flowers, knitting, sewing or quilting. She was a prolific seamstress and made most of her own clothes, sewed all her daughters’ wedding dresses, as well as her daughter-in-law’s. She loved to sew matching Christmas dresses for her granddaughters and their dolls. Vickie was always the happiest when she was surrounded by her family – the more the merrier!
Her Catholic faith was strong and she would pray a minimum of five rosaries a day along with watching Mass on television.
Vickie is survived by her five children Dianna Garrecht of Medicine Hat, Charlotte Berge of Lethbridge, Donna Richter of High River, Larry (Deb) Richter of Lethbridge County and Sherry (Keith) Brown of Lethbridge; twelve grandchildren Jody, Melanie, Karissa, Lindsay (Kasper), Nik (Holly), Courtney (Brad), Tyler (Bre), Colin (Erin), Craig (Meghan),Theran (Noriko), Keenan (Jenna) and Austin; fifteen great grandchildren Logan, Kason, Karli, Tylen, Macie-Nova, Lane, Micah, Macey-Lee, Jackson, Kael, Kelton, Reese, Carson, Lex and Guillaume. She is also survived by her devoted baby sister and best friend, Betty Andrus (Les †) who she loved dearly, as well as her sister-in-law Florence Miller and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Manirod Richter; her parents Joe and Minnie Miller; brothers Tony, George and sister Ethel; son-in-law Harvey Garrecht and granddaughter Kelsey Brown.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. Private burial to follow at Taber Memorial Garden. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at

LOCKE, Hughie Hughie Locke
1953 – 2025
James Hugh Locke, beloved husband of Darlene Locke of Coaldale, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, November 14, 2025 at the age of 72 years, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Hughie was born in Taber on March 14, 1953, to Malcolm and Mabel Locke of Hays. He grew up on the family farm in Hays with his siblings, older sister Chris, younger brothers Bill and Ivan and younger sister Shelley. He attended Hays School before transferring to Vauxhall High School.
In 1974, Hughie met Darlene Perini through Darlene’s brother, Doug and Hughie’s brother Bill. Darlene was attending the bantam baseball games in Taber to cheer on her brother and managing “passing the hat”. Hughie would roll up his window when Darlene came by with the collection hat and refused to look at Darlene, because he was too shy to talk to her. After overcoming his shyness, Hughie asked Darlene out and the two were married in Taber on April 26, 1975. While living in Vauxhall, Hughie and Darlene welcomed Jennifer in March 1978 and Kevin in July 1980.
Hughie started at Expanse Feedlot, which transitioned into V&B Feeds in Vauxhall, as a general labourer. Eventually, Hughie made his way to the front of the mill. Through various company name changes, Hughie happily joined Master Feeds as a feed salesman representing Southern Alberta and after some time, he became the Territory Manager. He became well known over a cup of coffee or sip of rum with the farmers, ranchers, producers and Hutterite Colonies. His cancer forced him into retirement in October of 2024. While receiving treatment, he told the doctors at Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre, that he was still working part time. He officially retired in the summer of 2025.
His kids and grandchildren meant absolutely everything to him. Jennifer was married on St. Patricks Day 2001 to Kevin Serfas. They reside in Turin and gifted Hughie and Darlene with five amazing grandchildren; Hughie was delighted with each arrival. Kevin Locke moved to Duchess in 2001 when he transferred for his job, where he met his long-time partner, Nicky in 2014.
Hughie made many friends over the years playing various sports such as oldtimer hockey, golf, baseball and slowpitch. Hughie was a proud member of the Vauxhall Legion and enjoyed volunteering. He also coached t-ball and minor baseball throughout the years. After he hung up the skates, retired the pings and put the bats down, his passion turned to his grandchildren’s sporting activities and was their biggest fan. When he wasn’t cheering on the kids, you could find him in his favourite easy chair watching golf, hockey or the Young and the Restless.
Hughie will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty years, Darlene; daughter Jennifer (Kevin) Serfas, son Kevin Locke (Nicky Kaprowski), and his adoring grandchildren Camerynn Serfas, Kourtney Serfas, Rhett Serfas, Tate Serfas and Ryan Serfas. Hughie also leaves behind his siblings Dwight (Marge), Chris, Ivan (Laurel) and Shelley along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mac and Mabel, brother Bill and brother-in-law, Barry Turner.
A private service will be held at the Vauxhall Cemetery prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Vauxhall Community Hall, 417 – 4 Street North, Vauxhall on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 11:30 A.M. A short service will be followed by a luncheon serving Hughie’s favourites. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at

Lynda had a special love for British Columbia during harvest time, returning home with fruit that she would immediately share with family, friends, and anyone visiting from Little Pine. No one ever left her home empty-handed. Whether in Lethbridge or back in her home community, she was known for her generosity and her endless hours spent preparing meals for loved ones. Her dedication to her family in Little Pine was unwavering. She could always be counted on at feeds, powwows, and memorials – arriving with boxes and bags of food to honour those who had passed. She was a pillar in keeping her family connected, reaching out often to ask how she could help. Lynda also treasured her close relationship with Alfred’s sister, Shirley, in Browning, Montana, making many heartfelt visits that strengthened the bonds of family on both sides.
Lynda’s sudden departure has left her family and community deeply wounded. Yet they take comfort in knowing she is reunited with loved ones who journeyed before her. She will be missed beyond measure. Her love, guidance, and strength will remain forever in the hearts of those she touched. She was truly one of the matriarchs of her generation.
