Dmitri Yakutsenak scored a hat trick to lead the Prince George Cougars to a 6-2 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night at the CN Centre.
The Cougars scored four goals by the 4:27 mark of the first period to get out to a 4-0 lead.
Yakutsenak opened the scoring 42 seconds into the game with his seventh of the season from Lethbridge product Terik Parascak and Brock Souch.
Carson Carels scored at the 2:48 mark of the first to give Prince George a 2-0 lead.
Arsenii Anisimov and former Hurricane Kooper Gizowski picked up the assists on the goal.
It was nearly a minute-and-a-half later that Yakutsenak scored his second of the game from Lee Shurgot to give Prince George a 3-0 lead.
Parascak gave the Cougars a 4-0 lead with his 17th goal of the season from Gizowski and Souch at the 4:27 mark of the first period.
Kayden Longley got the Canes on the board with 6:19 to go in the opening frame from Hudson Kibblewhite on the powerplay.
Owen Berge cut Prince George’s lead in half with a powerplay goal 9:02 into second period.
Logan Wormald and Nathan Maloney assisted on Berge’s seventh goal of the season.
Yakutsenak notched his hat trick goal on the powerplay with two seconds to go in the second period to give the Cougars a 5-2 lead.
Carels and Gizowski assisted on the goal.
Shurgot sealed the win for Prince George with a shorthanded empty-net goal from Anisimov with 4:10 to play in the game.
Lethbridge went 2-for-6 and the Cougars went 1-for-4 on the powerplay.
The Canes ended their seven-game road trip with a 3-4 record.
Lethbridge (8-17-0-1) will be on home ice for first time in three weeks when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors next Friday night.
