ARNOLD, Patricia “Patsy” ARNOLD With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our cherished PATRICIA “PATSY” ANNE KATHLEEN ARNOLD at Edith Cavell Care Centre in Lethbridge on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the age of 79 years.
Born on September 10, 1946, to Rose (Kopp) and Wendelin Arnold Sr., Patsy entered the world as a little sister for her big brother Benny – and then quickly became the second eldest of ten children. Unfortunately for her, she learned to change diapers at lightning speed.
Patsy attended the old St. Patrick’s Elementary School on 4th Avenue South, then St. Mary’s, and finally St. Joseph’s All Girls School, where she graduated in 1965. During her senior high school years, Patsy also was an executive member on the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and enjoyed the many outings and events which mostly consisted of her mates from high school. She eventually moved to Vancouver, B.C., where she worked as a lab assistant.
Patsy was birth mother of three beautiful children, two of which have ties to the family: Charles Arnold, and Kali Mynott, and Kali’s daughter Hailey Mynott. She is also survived by her sisters, Joan Herbut and Marilyn Arnold (Manfred Poehlmann), and her brothers: Hubert Arnold, Joseph Arnold (Linda), and Robert Arnold, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Wendelin Sr., her brothers: Bernard, James, and Wendelin Jr., and her little sister Cecile.
Patsy was a quiet, gentle soul who loved to read and who found joy in simple moments. As children, she and her siblings treasured their Sunday outings to Galt Gardens, Indian Battle Park, Henderson Lake, and Park Lake. In many ways, she was a second mother – always helping care for the younger siblings, always steady, always present. Caring was simply who she was. She also formed loyal, heartfelt friendships, quiet bonds that enriched her life.
Her childhood included the dreaded summer swimming lessons, always with younger siblings in tow. She loved tobogganing and was often the first one home, eager to prepare the hot chocolate. She perfected the art of teasing her hair – often combing most of it out only to re-tease, repeat, and then do the final comb out. She also loved to sing. Many evenings were spent on her bed with her younger sister Marilyn, singing all the latest songs on the radio. They carried this tradition well into adulthood, even during Patsy’s time at Edith Cavell.
A misfortunate accident in her youth meant that she would spend most of her adult life in care, yet she remained a free spirit at heart. Upon leaving BC and before moving into long-term care, she often set out on long walks, exploring much of Alberta on her own terms. Through those adventures, we discovered her “spicy” personality – something we came to appreciate and adore.
Patsy was especially proud of her confirmation name, Kathleen, chosen in honour of her sponsor, Kathleen Roy, a beloved teacher at St. Patrick’s Elementary School.
Patsy will be remembered for her kindness, her gentle humour, her independence, and the quiet way she shaped all of our lives.
She was a caregiver. She was the radiance of beauty. She was deeply loved. And she will be deeply missed.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, November 28, 2025 at 12:00 Noon with Father Santiago Torres celebrating.
Following the Funeral Mass, Patsy will be laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery.
