Six more of Premier Smith’s UCP legislature members face recall petitions

By Canadian Press on November 24, 2025.

EDMONTON — Elections Alberta says six more members of Premier Danielle Smith’s United Conservative Party caucus are facing recall petitions, bringing the total to nine.

The latest petitions are for cabinet ministers Rajan Sawhney, Myles McDougall, Dale Nally and RJ Sigurdson.

They also target Ric McIver, Speaker of the house, and Muhammad Yaseen, associate minister for multiculturalism.

Elections Alberta previously approved petitions to recall Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides, backbencher Nolan Dyck and deputy Speaker Angela Pitt.

The approval process allows the person who launched the petition to collect signatures over a period of months in a constituency and, if they collect enough, a vote is held on whether to recall the legislature member.

It’s a long process, but if all nine MLAs are defeated in constituency votes, the United Conservatives would lose their majority status.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 24, 2025.

Say What . . .

Agreed! I am surprised you were allowed to say that! The Herald censorship would not allow me to state a similar remark, which was filled with facts, facts such as:
Nonviolent & Disruptive Actions
–Organizing workers and unions: Socialists have long advocated for collective action by the working class to exert economic and political pressure. This often involves forming and leveraging trade unions.Strikes: General strikes or specific workplace strikes are a primary form of direct action to obstruct normal economic activity and pressure the state or employers to meet demands.
–Mass protests and demonstrations: Mobilizing large numbers of people in the streets is used to show public outcry and put pressure on the government.
–Civil disobedience: This involves the nonviolent, intentional breaking of laws deemed unjust, such as refusing to pay specific taxes or participating in sit-ins or occupations.
–Information campaigns: This can involve educational efforts to raise class consciousness among workers and the general population and to promote socialist ideas as an alternative to the existing system.
This is the new Herald authority!

Sheran.

It seems there are no bounds to what a desperate political party will do to obtain power and control Alberta! Many believe the strikes stem from a coordinated effort between unions and a political party to achieve this goal! When parties disregard the electoral process, what options do we have moving forward? Is this the new strategy for seizing power? Those of us who have been observing over the past year have witnessed the initiatives put forth by this particular political party, and they are now active on several fronts!
Imagine if instead of overthrowing an elected government, all of that study, cooperation, planning, etc., had gone toward addressing our housing crisis, economic crisis, division issues, etc. This administration was elected by the majority of Albertans, but now this desperate party and its little special interest organizations are doing everything they can to overthrow it!
Alberta politics have sunk into the sewer!
