Horns medal at Swimming Championships

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns had encouraging results as hosts of the Canada West Swimming Championships over the weekend.

Pronghorn women’s swimmer Ryenn  Katterhagen won bronze in the women’s 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:09.87, the Pronghorn 400m Women’s Freestyle Relay team won bronze with a time of 3:48.88 and the women’s team won bronze in the 400m Medley Relay with a time of 4:11.88.

Some notable Pronghorn records were broken over the course of the weekend as on the first day Annika Cameron created a new school record  in the 50m butterfly with a time of 27:58 , while the  Women’s 800m Freestyle Relay team’s time of 8:30.05 is the new record in U of L swimming.

Both U of L teams finished fourth overall in the standings with the women finishing with a score of 321  and the men collecting a score of 271.

“We had a great conference championships meet,” said Peter Schori, U of L swimming head coach.

“Our swimmers raced to almost 50 lifetime best times and the women set six new school records.”

The Horns qualified for USports Nationals through five of their six relay events due to being in the top eight in Canada.

U of L’s Meadow Liversuch won the Female Student-Athlete Community Service Award.

The UBC Thunderbirds claimed the Canada West banners on both sides for a second year in a row as the women had a score of 1,032. 50 and the men had 1,062.50 and they scooped up all individual awards throughout the championship.
