The Lethbridge Hurricanes are hoping for a little bit of home cooking.

Lethbridge is preparing for three games in four nights this week, all taking place at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena. The Hurricanes  welcome the Red Deer Rebels (9-12-1-2) on Wednesday night. The Wenatchee Wild (8-13-1-1) make their lone trip to Lethbridge on Friday night before the division rival Calgary Hitmen (12-8-3-1) are in town on Saturday.

The stretch will conclude a four game homestand for the Hurricanes, who are coming off a 6-3 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors last Friday on home ice. It was the first home game for Lethbridge in three weeks as the team completed a season-long seven game road trip through the B.C. Division.

Hurricane captain Logan Wormald says Lethbridge will need to capitalize on the remainder of the homestand.

“It’s awesome, especially coming home after a big road trip. It’s obviously super nice. Four games at home that I’m pretty sure we should be winning. These are the moments you look back on later in the year and hope that you won. We got to come out here and get a few wins at home. “

Lethbridge has dropped two of their three meetings with Red Deer so far this season, with the last matchup being a 5-0 Rebel win in Lethbridge back on Oct. 11.

Hurricane assistant coach Ryan Aasman says each matchup will provide unique challenges for Lethbridge.

“The last time we played Red Deer, we didn’t really like our effort but we like what they give.  You watch the Calgary game that they just played, and they came out super physical. They play you really hard, and you have to keep your head up. You’re going to be under a lot of pressure, which is great for our group to play against. When you look forward to Wenatchee, it’s a one-off game, a team that’s going to be starting their trip, so you know they’re going to be energized. A lot of Alberta guys on the team will be excited to play at home. We’ll have to manage that energy and make sure that we’re coming off of a good game Wednesday to build.”

“With Calgary, a good division team that’s been playing well as of late and can be really opportunistic and score when they want and also have a lot of depth throughout their lineup. All three positions for them are solid. We’ll be at the tail end of that three in four, we’ll have to make sure that we manufacture some energy and we know we’ll have a good crowd.”

The Hurricanes are looking to keep the momentum from the month of November moving on into the month. Lethbridge posted a positive record of 6-5-0-0 last month, despite a three week long absence from the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

Wormald says Lethbridge will look to keep improving as the season goes along.

“It was huge. One thing, it’s just growing over time and learning our systems and then playing the right way. In the month of November, we did super well. I don’t think anyone can complain about an over .500 percentage. The team’s gotten a lot better, definitely from the start. There’s huge signs of improvement so I’m super proud of the group.”

Aasman says it’s took a complete effort from the Hurricanes to come out ahead of the curve in November.

“We hit the reset button on the first and said it was a new month, and I think our leadership group took that and ran with it and made sure our guys were locked in. It’s always encouraging when you go on a road trip like that, it’s never easy. You had to get good performances out of multiple people all the time on those trips, and it starts with your goaltending out. When you start the road trip 3-1, we had good goaltending. Our back end played solid, and our forwards are finding ways to put the puck in the net, but also work and get pucks back. That was great, the road trip, but most importantly, when you get back, you get a couple days off, and you finish the month off the right way at home, which was awesome.”

Puck drops between the Hurricanes and Rebels at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Icings: Hurricanes defenceman Matteo Fabrizi has been issued a one game suspension by the WHL for a cross-checking major and game misconduct against Moose Jaw on Nov. 28. Lethbridge has also recalled 16-year-old rearguard Reid Soper from the Edmonton Jr. Oilers U18 AAA of the Alberta Elite Hockey League. Soper has posted 15 points (3g, 12a) in 15 games played.
