By Canadian Press on December 4, 2025.

Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor of Mississauga, Ont., has won the 2025 Tip O’Neill Award, given to the top Canadian in Major League Baseball.

Naylor hit .295 with 92 RBIs and 30 stolen bases, leading all Canadians, while splitting the season between Arizona and Seattle. He also finished second among Canadian big leaguers in hits (160), runs (81), home runs (20), doubles (29) and walks (48).

The 28-year-old earned the honour ahead of Boston’s Nick Pivetta, Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Cleveland’s Cade Smith.

Naylor delivered a strong September as Seattle pushed for the division title.

He then starred in the playoffs, batting .340 and setting multiple Canadian postseason records.

Naylor re-signed with Seattle on a US$92.5 million, five-year contract after the season.
