Gary Seiko Teruya

April 13 1940 – February 13 2014

Dad left our presence here to join his best friend, love of his life Fay in the early hours of February 13th. Born in Lethbridge at the Alexander Galt Hospital to Canako and Seizan, dad was the 2nd youngest of 5 siblings Pat, Bob, Gene, Dad, Gail to which he is survived by his sisters Pat (Earl) and Gail (Jim). Mom and dad were blessed with 3 children Gary Jr (Dawn), Chad, Kim (Keith) 5 grandchildren Tai, Torin,Josh, Dani, Kenzie and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Dad’s years were full of excitement with mom always there putting her views into his ideas and making sure they were hers. Dad’s career began in the automotive industry, primarily autobody. “Beautiful Bodies Are Our Business” was the logo for his shop in Fernie after moving his family from Hardieville to carry on his passions and dreams for his family. His knowledge and experience from his endeavors made it possible for Dad and Mom to enjoy trips to Hawaii, golfing excursions, many camping and fishing trips and many other adventures which had his family close by. Always concerned about his grandchildren dad showed a keen interest in their dreams whether it be music, art or their career choices, but always being the silent critic. Once you befriended Dad it wasn’t long before you had a new nickname, one that always gave him a giggle or two, and those receiving a sense of acceptance.

“Don’t listen to me…..I’ve been there before”

We don’t know all your travels Dad but we do know you¹re with Mom and Chaddy.

Love you, miss you and forever in our hearts

We would like to thank Dr. Geers and his staff for the years of care given, Dr. Wong, the staff at CRH 4-C and the staff at Good Samaritan¹s Park Meadows for their care during Dad’s brief illness. Koden and flowers gracefully declined. Please donate to Diabetes, Heart and Stroke or Cancer Fund.  There will be a private family memorial at a later date.

Jenkins, John Earle (Jack)

September 6, 1923

January 30, 2014

It is with loving memories that we say goodbye to a wonderful father and grandfather. Dad passed away on January 30, 2014 at Vista Village at the age of 90. As a young man, Jack answered his country¹s call to serve in WWII. Injured in the Battle of Monte Cassino, he was sent to Great Britain to convalesce. It was there that he met Martha, the love of his life. Following the war, Jack returned home to ranch and was soon joined by Martha. Together they raised four daughters and celebrated 59 years of marriage before her passing in 2007. From the time he was a young boy Jack spent many happy hours outdoors, fishing and hunting. He was always ready for a challenge whether it was a game of cards, solving a puzzle or teaching himself to use the computer at the age of 80. His sense of humour lives on in his many jokes and stories. Despite a gruff exterior, Jack had a soft and compassionate side that was evident to those who knew him well. Jack was predeceased by his infant twin brother, his wife, Martha, and brother, Bud. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters; Seonaid Jenkins, Maureen (Bob) Waugh, Colleen (Jim) Hartley, Tammy Jenkins (Russell Grigg), his grandchildren; Anica (Dwayne) Robinson, Kurtis (Vicki) Dyck, Tara Waugh (Tyson Shiels), Kyla (Glen) Edwards, Jimmy (Heather)Hartley, Lindsay, Dylan, and Terrance Hartley, Mikaela, Alex and Rachel Grigg and his great grandchildren; Cody, Josh, and Jaedyn Robinson, Tianna, Kylee and Jack Fair and Emmett Shiels, Arianna, Conner and Trent Edwards, James Hartley, sister; Lorraine (Jim) Pomeroy, sister-in-law; Fay Jenkins and many extended family and friends. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Rottger and the nurses at the hospital and to the staff at Vista Village for their care and compassion during his illness. Special gratitude also to friends, Frank and Darlene for all their love and support and for being there when we could not. A Memorial Service will be held on at 2:00 P.M., on July 4, 2014 at the PINCHER CREEK UNITED CHURCH, 972 Police Ave., Pincher Creek, AB. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

JIM HARKER

1954 ~ 2014

Jim Harker of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Karen Harker passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12 at the age of 59 years. Jim was mostly raised in the McNally district southeast of Lethbridge, attending nearby McNally School and then Kate Andrews High School in Coaldale. He started to work in the road construction industry in his early teens and quickly found his career path. Jim and his family started McNally Contractors in 1976 and together they worked to build the business into what it is today. Jim loved to build things, from entire subdivisions to roads to asphalt plants. He was an entrepreneur, and above all, a mentor and coach to many. Jim felt incredible pride in helping other people succeed. Castle Mountain had a special place in Jim¹s life. Jim and Karen started skiing there in the early 80¹s, and passed their passion for skiing on to Leslie, Jeff, and Karly. Jim was one of several shareholders who worked together to transition the operation of the resort from the MD to the shareholders in the mid-90¹s, and he was on the Castle Mountain Board of Directors for 14 years. He helped to build ski runs and both the blue and red chair lifts. Jim was fully engaged for many years in the success of Castle Mountain because of the positive impact it had on his and other families. Jim¹s life was centered around his family and his work. He was incredibly proud of his children, their adventures and accomplishments. When he spoke of his family, he often called himself the luckiest man in the world. We have great memories of enjoying the outdoors together, including hiking, skiing, kayaking, and just playing. We will always find Jim¹s spirit, love of life, and love of a job well done with his family, on job sites around Southern Alberta and on his favourite ski runs at Castle. Besides his loving wife, Jim is survived by his son, Jeff, and two daughters, Leslie (Matt Hanlon), and Karly; his mother, Verda Harker; his sister, Susan Tanner (Scott), and two brothers, David Harker (Carol-Lynn) of Lethbridge and Bill Harker (Dereka); as well as his nieces and nephews who were also very special to him. Jim was predeceased by his father, Garth Harker, one year ago in February 2013. A Come and Go Reception to celebrate Jim¹s life will be held from 3:30pm-6:00pm on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Coast Hotel, 526 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge. Flowers are gratefully declined. In Jim¹s memory, our family is planning to participate in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer in Calgary on August 9-10, 2014. Donations towards our fundraising goal for “Team Jim” would be greatly appreciated. All the money raised by the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer directly benefits cancer patients and their families in communities throughout the province. More information will be available at the reception service. http://www.conquercancer.ca/. Send condolences at http://www.mbfunerals.com.
