The Lethbridge Hurricanes edged the Wenatchee Wild 2-1 during the 29th annual Canadian Tire Toque and Teddy Toss Game on Friday night at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
Kaden Longley broke in on a partial breakaway and scored a shorthanded goal 15:38 into the first period to allow fans to unleash the stuffed bears on to the ice.
“It’s feels pretty amazing,” said Longley,
Longley saw the goal as one coming off a broken play.
“(I) saw my chance and happy it went in,” said Longley.
Longley thought it was a surreal feeling seeing the bears fly on to the ice and having the support from what he considers the league’s best fans.
Grady Pichette scored his first WHL goal 11:57 into the second period to give the Canes a 2-0 lead.
Luke Cozens and Owen Berge assisted on Pichette’s goal.
Wenatchee’s Aiden Grossklaus cut the Canes lead in half 10:51 into the third period on the powerplay with his fifth goal of the season from Josh Toll and Nolan Caffey.
