Canes deliver stuffed toy donations to CRH

Lethbridge Hurricane players Luke Cozens, Kayden Longley and Owen Berge dropped by Chinook Regional Hospital’s (CRH) Pediatric Unit to deliver stuffed toys from their Toque and Teddy Toss Game on Dec. 5 and talked to two young kid patients on Monday afternoon.

Longley scored the Toque and Teddy Toss goal this year.

“It’s very special,” said Longley, on being a part of the visit.

“It’s very special for us to come to a place like this and just drop off (teddy bears) and probably try to bring some more joy (to) the kids here.”

Cozens, like Longley, agreed it is special to bring the stuffed toys  in for the kids.

“I think it’s an honour to be able to come here and hopefully make their day better in any way by giving them these teddy bears,” said Cozens.

Cozens spoke about what it means for the team learning about community by attending events such as these special ones.

“The community supports us, they come out every night, they give us all the support we need, and just being able to give back to them (is) obviously a real special feeling and goes hand in hand with  them coming out to watch our games,” said Cozens.

CRH put out a call for stuffed toys  for young patients last month after seeing their shelves run out of donations and the toss helped with replenishing.

“It’s a great tradition that we have here in Lethbridge,” said Tara Deheer, Chinook Regional Hospital Pediatric Unit child life specialist.

“We were dwindling really heavily on the stuffies. So it’s great that Lethbridge came together and donated to the kids in need.”

The Canes Toque and Teddy Toss Game collected 3,651 stuffed teddy bears and 945 toques  for local charities.
