An Alberta RCMP member and his wife have been charged with multiple counts of fraud following an extensive investigation.

In May 2024, the Alberta RCMP Serious Crimes Branch was alerted of a possible fraud committed by a serving RCMP officer and is wife against the Piikani Resources Development Ltd.

Following the investigation both Cst.  Grant Shade and Katrina Shade, who both reside in Pincher Creek, were charged with Fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,0000. Additionally, Cst. Shade was charged with possession of property obtain by crime over $5,000.

Katrina had been an employee of Piikani Resource Development and Cst. Shade  has been a member of the Piikani RCMP Detachment since 2021. He is currently suspended with pay.

Both accused have their first appearance scheduled for Feb. 18 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Macleod.

Piikani Chief and Council provided a statement which stated in June 2024 they were made aware of irregularities in one of their departments and an independent financial audit confirmed the irregularities.

With this case now being a legal matter before the courts neither Piikani Chief and Council nor the RCMP will have further comment on the issue.
