Cavaliers dominate 76ers 133-107 as Garland exits with foot injury

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Donovan Mitchell had 35 points and nine assists, Darius Garland scored 20 points before leaving with an injured foot and the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Philadelphia 76ers 133-107 on Wednesday night.

Garland was ruled out for the game late in the third quarter when he hurt his right foot diving for a loose ball. Garland already had surgery in June on the injured left big toe that hampered him during Cleveland’s exit from the playoffs.

The All-Star guard averaged 17.9 points after a slow start this season as he recovered from surgery. Garland continued his recent hot streak and shot 8 for 13 against the 76ers.

Garland averaged 20.6 points and 6.7 assists during the regular season to help the Cavs finish atop the Eastern Conference.

Joel Embiid scored 20 points and hit a 3-pointer that helped him reach 13,000 career points, the seventh player in team history to hit that mark.

Paul George had 17 points for the Sixers in the opener of a two-game series.

RAPTORS 115, PACERS 101

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Brandon Ingram scored 30 points, including two key 3-pointers late, Scottie Barnes had 26 points and 13 assists, and Toronto used a fast start to defeat Indiana.

Gradey Dick had 21 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for the Raptors, who have won all three meeting with the Pacers.

When Indiana surged late to close the gap to 103-99 with 4:17 remaining, Ingram responded with 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions.

The Raptors never trailed. They hit 16 of 22 shots, including four of five from 3-point range, to take a 39-18 lead after the first quarter. The Pacers made just six of 18 shots.

Ingram made three of his first four shots as well as two free throws in the opening spurt. He finished 12 of 23 from the field. Barnes scored 10 in the opening quarter.

Pascal Siakam led the Pacers with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

PELICANS 116, NETS 113

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Trey Murphy III scored 34 points, Saddiq Bey made a tying 3-pointer, converted an offensive rebound into a dunk and hit two free throws in the final 1:04, and New Orleans edged Brooklyn.

Zion Williamson had 25 points for New Orleans, which won for just the second time in 13 games. Yves Missi contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds, nine on the offensive end to help the Pelicans finish with 33 second-chance points.

Egor Demin scored 17 points and hit five 3s, the last of them giving the Nets a 110-107 lead with 1:28 to go. Bey responded with his 3 to tie it as the shot clock was about to expire. His dunk came after he grabbed a long rebound on Murphy’s missed deep 3, and his free throws came with 5 seconds left after he was fouled intentionally.

Bey finished with 12 points.

Michael Porter Jr., who scored 20 points for the Nets, gained possession in the final seconds after a scramble for a loose ball near midcourt and let go a desperation heave that missed as the horn sounded.

BULLS 128, JAZZ 126

CHICAGO (AP) — Nikola Vucevic made a tiebreaking layup with 4 seconds remaining, and Chicago overcame Brice Sensabaugh’s career-high 43 points to beat Utah.

Vucevic scored 35 points to lead the Bulls, who had five reserves finish in double figures. Isaac Okoro was the only other starter in double figures with 12 points for a Bulls team playing without Josh Giddey because of strained left hamstring.

Sensabaugh scored 21 in the first quarter, the most by a player off the bench in the period since play-by-play tracking for all four quarters began in 1996-97. He helped carry Utah in a game it played without leading scorer Lauri Markkanen because of an illness.

The Jazz, who trailed by 12 with 5 1/2 minutes remaining, rallied to tie it at 126 on Sensabaugh’s layup with 28.5 seconds to go. Coby White then missed a 3-pointer for Chicago, but Okoro tracked it down and got it along the sideline to Tre Jones, who fired a pass to an open Vucevic under the basket.

Keyonte George, who sparked Utah’s comeback with 15 points in the final period, missing a 3-pointer that would have won it.

George scored 25 points and Kyle Filipowski had 19 for the Jazz, who were coming off a surprising victory at Cleveland on Monday.
