Carney defends Canada’s Afghanistan record but does not ask Trump for apology

By Canadian Press on January 26, 2026.

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney defended the Canadian military’s contributions to the war in Afghanistan today, but stopped short of asking U.S. President Donald Trump to apologize for belittling Canada’s role.

Carney said everyone should recognize the extraordinary contributions made by the Canadian Armed Forces in that conflict and noted 30 Canadian soldiers were awarded the U.S. Bronze Star Medal for valour.

But the prime minister did not mention Trump when asked by a journalist at a news conference whether he would call on the U.S. president to apologize for saying NATO troops stayed away from the front lines.

Carney instead pointed out that Canada sent 40,000 troops to Afghanistan over 13 years, where they served on the front lines, and said 158 Canadian soldiers and one diplomat lost their lives during that conflict.

In his controversial comments on Fox News on Thursday, Trump downplayed the overall role of NATO troops and insisted the United States has never needed its NATO allies for anything, or asked anything of them.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reacted on Friday by calling Trump’s remarks “insulting” and “frankly appalling.”

And the other civilians seem to always get left out of the statistics:  four aid workers, a government contractor, and a journalist.
Hundreds more died at home from the combat stress injuries they sustained mostly from PDST!
Thousands were injured, many maimed, and still suffer to date!
Funny your ‘poke the bear’ to show off for your globalist friends at the WEF or to suck up to China while there, but you will not ask for a warranted apology from a man who continues to spew lies and make broken promises!
After all the loss of blood in Afghanistan, the US ran out with their tails between their legs, leaving many Afghans who were Local Employees (LE’s) to be slaughtered and tortured by the terrorists in Afghanistan, and left billions of dollars of munitions and other equipment for the Taliban to possess, with some making it onto other battlefields in other countries.
That is the true US of A!!!! Now turning on its longtime closest ally and biggest trading partner, threatening to take over our country just like Putin tried to took over Ukraine.
You have proven to be untrustworthy and just as bad as other dictators!
What is worse, you pretend to be a Christian, but act like an anti-Christ!
