By Canadian Press on January 28, 2026.

TORONTO — Moguls skier Mikaël Kingsbury and ski cross racer Marielle Thompson have been named Canada’s flag-bearers for the opening ceremonies of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

The ceremonies will be held simultaneously Feb. 6 in Milan and the mountain hubs of Cortina, Livigno and Predazzo. Kingsbury and Thompson will carry Canada’s flag in Livigno, where they will compete.

Kingsbury won Olympic moguls gold in 2018 and silver in both 2014 and 2022.

Thompson was the women’s Olympic ski cross champion in 2014 and also claimed a silver medal in 2022.

Canada’s flag-bearers for Beijing’s opening ceremonies in 2022 were hockey player Marie-Philip Poulin and short-track speedskater Charles Hamelin.

Italy’s Winter Olympics will be the most spread out ever, with six Olympic villages across 22,000 square kilometres in Northern Italy.
