Dawson Creek RCMP announce charges against three people in 2023 homicide

By Canadian Press on February 1, 2026.

DAWSON CREEK — Police in Dawson Creek, B.C., say three people have been charged with first-degree murder more than two years after a 37-year-old man was found dead in a vehicle on New Year’s Eve in 2023.

Dawson Creek RCMP say Robert Girbav, 37, was found dead inside a truck by officers responding to a suspicious vehicle call in the city, which is about 400 kilometres northeast of Prince George.

Police say the three people charged in the case are 31-year-old Tanner Murray, 34-year-old Robert Sinclair and 36-year-old Benjamin Touchette.

Mounties say the north district major crime unit made the arrests Saturday in B.C. and Alberta.

They say the three men were already in custody on other matters.

Police say they believe Girbav knew the alleged killers, and Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon of the B.C. RCMP major crime unit says Girbav’s killing was “felt widely” in the small community, which has been rocked by several murders and disappearances in the past few years.
