Lethbridge Police shared on Jan. 22, that they have charged a 22-year-old male with sex related offences in connection with an incident where a 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in a city hotel room and the case was in court Wednesday.
The male, Yuvraaz Singh appeared in court via CCTV Wednesday for a Judicial Interim Release hearing, for which release was not granted.
LPS shared on Jan. 22 that on April 24, 2025, police responded to a request to assist in the recovery of property from a southside hotel room, and upon arrival, police located a male with six children, one boy and five girls ranging in age from 12 to 14, inside the room.
LPS said Singh, later determined to be 21 years old at the time, initially lied to police about his age, claiming to be a teenager and an investigation was subsequently initiated.
LPS said the investigation determined that Singh had met the teens on social media and after driving them around to various locations, he took the group to a hotel room where they were provided with alcohol and a 12-year-old girl reported she was sexually assaulted.
LPS said that during the investigation, after repeated unsuccessful attempts to contact Singh, police learned he had left the country, he was subsequently charged and a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest was issued.
On Jan. 19, 2026, LPS was alerted that Singh had returned to Canada and had been arrested at the Vancouver International Airport.
Singh is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invite sexual touching and obstructing a peace officer. Singh was transported back to Alberta and appeared in court via CCTV on Wednesday, and his matters were adjourned to March 4, 2026.
