Berrios apologies to teammates, fans for absence during Blue Jays’ post-season run

By Canadian Press on February 12, 2026.

DUNEDIN — Jose Berrios has apologized to his Toronto Blue Jays teammates and the fans for his absence during last year’s run to the World Series.

Berrios spoke to media at the second day of the Blue Jays spring training camp.

He was put on Toronto’s injured list for the first time in his career last September with tendon inflammation in his right elbow and bicep.

Berrios says since he couldn’t pitch, he decided to go home to his family in Puerto Rico, a decision he adds was a mistake.

Most injured players stay with their major league club during the playoffs as a show of solidarity with their teammates.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider says he and Toronto’s coaching staff could have had better communication with Berrios at the time.
