Country music singer Corb Lund will be kicking of f the Water Not Coal petition movement with three public events, the first being held in Lethbridge.
For the last six year, Lund has advocated for the protection of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains and Headwaters from coal development and the threats it poses to water, ecosystems and communities.
He has most recently applied for a citizens initiative petition through elections Alberta, which was recently approved.
At the event, which will be held on Saturday Lund will speak about why the movement matters, what’s at stake for Alberta’s headwaters and how people across the province can get involved.
He says this petition is a chance for Albertans voice to be heard on this issue and protect the Rockies from coal development.
“Responsible mining means no coal development in the heart of our headwaters and sensitive areas of our Rocky Mountains.”
The event will be held on Friday from 4:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens.
The event will include opportunities to sign the petition, hear from Lund and special guests, learn about volunteer roles and connect with fellow Albertans who are committed to protecting the provinces water and Rocky Mountain Landscapes.
The petition is required to obtain 177,732 signatures by June 10, 2026
