FRISCO, Texas (AP) — The Cowboys released linebacker Logan Wilson on Friday, ending his brief Dallas tenure following an in-season trade that did little to boost one of the NFL’s worst defenses.
Dallas is in the midst of an offseason overhaul of the defense. It started with the hiring of defensive coordinator Christian Parker to replace Matt Eberflus, who was fired after the Cowboys allowed the most points with the fewest interceptions in franchise history in his only season.
Wilson was traded to Dallas in November after his playing time dropped dramatically in Cincinnati. He played seven games for the Bengals and eight for the Cowboys.
Dallas finished last in the NFL in scoring defense and passing defense and 29th in total yards allowed. Wilson never did much to change that, and even had a game where he was active but didn’t play.
The 29-year-old was a third-round draft pick out of Wyoming by the Bengals in 2020. He had at least 100 tackles in four consecutive seasons starting in 2021 before his playing time dwindled last season.
The Cowboys traded for Wilson after 2025 offseason acquisition Jack Sanborn, who played for Eberflus in Chicago, didn’t pan out. Sanborn was injured and appeared in just six games for the Cowboys.
