Local male charged with impaired driving in connection with pedestrian collision

Lethbridge Police have charged 56-year-old Joseph Cameron Brewster, with impaired driving causing bodily harm, following a pedestrian collision that resulted in life-threatening injuries of a 78-year-old male. 

On March 2 just before 4 p.m., police responded to a report of a pedestrian collision at the intersection of 13 Street and 3 Avenue North, where a 78-year-old male pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Chinook Regional Hospital with significant head injuries, and later transferred to Calgary. 

LPS shared on Tuesday that the investigation determined a Dodge Ram truck was travelling eastbound on 3 Avenue then proceeded to turn southbound on 13 Street, colliding with the elderly pedestrian. 

LPS also shared that the driver, Brewster, displayed signs of impairment and following further investigation was subsequently charged. 

Brewster is charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and driving over .08. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court April 29.

The victim remains in hospital in critical condition, and the LPS Victim/Witness Services Unit is providing support to his family.

The investigation is ongoing.
