ST. JOHN’S — Brad Gushue of Newfoundland and Labrador and reigning Olympic champion Brad Jacobs kept their chances for a Canadian men’s curling championship alive with playoff victories on Friday night.
Both teams recovered from earlier playoff losses Friday at the Montana’s Brier.
The two teams will meet Saturday with the victor advancing to Sunday’s semifinal and the loser eliminated.
Gushue defeated Ontario’s Jayden King 12-6 after falling 7-5 to Manitoba’s Matt Dunstone.
The Jacobs team was a 7-3 winner over Manitoba’s Braden Calvert after a 7-4 loss to Alberta’s Kevin Koe.
Dunstone and Koe meet in the Page playoff between the top two seeds with Saturday’s winner earning an express ticket to Sunday’s final. The loser drops to the semifinal to face the winner of Gushue and Jacobs.
