Ravens edge Bold 58-52 to net berth in U Sports men’s basketball final

CALGARY — Cedric Mbiaba had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Carleton Ravens to a 58-52 victory over the Toronto Metropolitan Bold on Saturday in the U Sports men’s basketball semifinals in Calgary.

The Ravens advance to Sunday’s championship final and will play either the Bishop’s Gaiters or Victoria Vikes, who meet in Saturday’s late semifinal.

Mark Dike had nine points and four rebounds for the Ravens, who were tied 26-26 at halftime and led 42-37 heading into the final quarter.

Aaron Rhooms had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Bold, while Maxime Louis-Jean added nine points.

BASELINES: The Laval Rouge et Or beat the UBC Thunderbirds 83-75 in Saturday’s first consolation game. Chris Tshibola had a game-high 25 points for Laval. In the second consolation game, the Acadia Axemen beat the Calgary Dinos 88-77. Robbie Grant led the Axemen with 23 points and seven rebounds. Laval and Acadia will play in Sunday’s fifth-place game.
