Seattle Reign sell Canadian international forward Jordyn Huitema to the Chicago Stars

CHICAGO — The Chicago Stars have acquired Canadian international Jordyn Huitema from Seattle Reign FC in exchange for US$200,000 in allocation money and a US$300,000 transfer fee.

The 24-year-old from Chilliwack, B.C., has signed a three-year contract with Chicago.

“We’re very excited to welcome Jordyn to Chicago,” Chicago GM Richard Feuz said in a statement. “Over the past few months, together with our coaching staff, we spent a lot of time identifying the right profile to strengthen our attacking line, and Jordyn quickly stood out.”

“She brings valuable experience in the NWSL and internationally, including winning the (2022 NWSL) Shield and competing in the playoffs, and we believe that will add another important layer to the group we’re building here.”

Huitema has won 96 caps for Canada with 23 goals and seven assists. At five-foot-11, she is a threat in the air and a handful for defenders.

She began her pro career with France’s Paris Saint-Germain, making 45 appearances in three seasons (2019-2021). Huitema joined Seattle in 2022 and went on to make 70 regular-season appearances, including 58 starts, with 10 goals and four assists.

“I’m truly excited to be joining Chicago and becoming part of what this club is building,” said Huitema. “The ambition, vision and direction of the organization made this an incredibly compelling opportunity, and I’m grateful for the chance to contribute to the team’s future.”

Huitema joins fellow Canadian international Julia Grosso, a close friend, on the Chicago roster.

The Stars open the NWSL season Sunday at Angel City FC.

Huitema leaves Seattle with the eighth-most regular-season goals and 11th-most regular-season appearances in club history. She is also the second-youngest player in club history to score two goals in a game, having accomplished the feat during the 2024 season at the age of 23.

“Jordyn has been a tremendous professional and teammate during her time with the Reign,” Seattle GM Lesle Gallimore said in a statement. “We’re grateful for the commitment and energy she brought to the club and to our community. We wish her nothing but the best in the next chapter of her career.”
