N.S. judge to rule on 2015 Air Canada crash landing class action settlement in June

A judge is expected to rule in June on a proposed settlement for a class-action lawsuit about the 2015 crash landing of an Air Canada flight in Halifax.

The law firms involved in the class action issued a notice saying the hearing is scheduled for June 22 in Nova Scotia’s Supreme Court.

The lawyers say Air Canada, Nav Canada, and the Halifax International Airport Authority would pay the proposed $18,075,000 settlement, which includes legal fees and expenses.

Air Canada Flight 624 from Toronto struck power lines during a snowstorm at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in March 2015, causing the plane to land about 200 metres short of the runway.

Twenty-five of the 133 passengers on board were injured.

Federal investigators determined in 2017 that approach procedures, poor visibility and lighting contributed to the crash.
