BROWN
Jennie Georgina Brown (nee Monson), with Family by her side, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital 
on Friday, March 21, 2014 at the age of 83 years. Jennie is survived by her son Cameron (Bruce), and 
daughters Pamela (Bryan), Judy Guzzi (Duane) and Grandchildren, Marissa, and Nikolaos. She is survived by 
sisters Joyce (Jack), Dolly, Norma, Mildred, brother Bud (Marilyn) and numerous nieces and nephews. 
Jennie was predeceased by her Mother and Father, Alma and Oscar Monson, her son Dean Brown, and sisters 
Blanche, Marion, Lena, and brother Donald. Jennie was born in Coaldale. She was raised and educated in 
Turin Alberta. Jennie was employed by Hudson Bay Red Carpet for over 20 years and retired in 1992. Jennie 
spent her retirement years traveling, camping, having coffee with her friends and family, shopping and 
attending the jams on weekends. Help raising her grandchildren was the joy of her life. Don’t phone 
Mondays or Fridays because wrestling was on and she was not going to talk to you. Moving into the Garden 
View lodge was a highlight of her retirement. The new friends she met and the camaraderie that she felt 
was wonderful in the last year of her life. Jennie was a wonderful grandmother, mother, sister, friend 
and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE 
FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 1:00 PM. In 
lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association: 515 7 St S (s 511), Lethbridge 
AB, T1J 2G8 in memory of Jennie Brown.

It is with a heavy heart I announce the quiet and sudden passing of my husband Douglas McKenzie, on 
Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Chinook Regional Hospital.
Doug is survived by Linda, his loving wife of 43 years; brother David (Ann); nephew Lee, niece Jan. He 
was predeceased by his parents Roy and Edith and youngest brother Robert Lee (Bobbie).
Doug was born July 6, 1943 in West Ham London, England; he came to Canada at age of 2 years, living the 
rest of his life in Southern Alberta. He started his entrepreneur years as stock boy for Kresge, then 
wholesale manager for Southern Stationers, purchaser for CIP- Price Daxion Paper, to owning his own 
business.
He was passionate about books, an avid fisherman who loved spending time camping in the Gap and Oldman 
River areas, road trips and relaxing with the “next good read”. Doug was an active member of the Royal 
Canadian Legion, he loved playing shuffleboard (Canadian champion), darts (Provincial champion), dominos, 
golf and the fellowship of Legion members.
The family is honoring his wishes of not marking his passing with any formal service. Cremation has taken 
place and his ashes will be spread at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please attend and enjoy your local library.
As a memorial to Doug, find a friend, a relative, or a co-worker, take a walk in nature and raise a toast 
to a life that was and a memory that will live on with all of us.

INSPECTOR PETER MCDERMID (RET.)
1929 – 2014
Peter McDermid of Lethbridge, Alberta, beloved husband of 52 years of Sharon McDermid (nee Doughty) 
passed away on March 19, 2014 of complications arising from cancer at the age of 84 years. In addition to 
his beloved wife Sharon, Peter is survived by his sons Joseph Robert (Isadora) and Peter James (Sylvie) 
McDermid, his beloved granddaughter Meghan Monique Sharon McDermid, sister Margaret McNally and brother 
Edward. He is predeceased by his father Joseph, mother Catherine and brothers Joseph and John.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland on December 15, 1929, Peter was a young evacuee during World War II. Completing 
his two year mandatory military service in 1950, Peter immigrated to Canada in 1955 and joined the Royal 
Canadian Mounted Police in 1956, serving with distinction with the RCMP for 34 years across various posts 
in Canada, rising to the rank of Inspector prior to his retirement in 1990 in Ottawa. Peter and Sharon 
then settled in Sharon’s hometown of Lethbridge.
Peter’s life was distinguished by dedicated service to his community. After retirement, he taught in the 
Criminal Justice program at Lethbridge Community College for 10 years and served as the President of the 
Lethbridge RCMP Veterans Association. Peter was also President of the 60 plus Club and served on the 
Boards of the National Association of Federal Retirees and Fort Whoop-Up. He was also a third-degree 
Knight of Columbus. A passionate golfer, he will be sorely missed by his partners at Henderson Lake.

James (Jim) McKay passed away at St. Michael’s Health Care Centre on March 21st, 2014 at the age of 72.
Jim will be remembered for his kind heart, friendly personality, and for being a proud and loving 
husband, father, and grandpa. He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Arlene; his children Kathie, Judy (Dale), Darin (Tessa),

RICK PLUNKETT, beloved husband of Tracy of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on 
March 21, 2014 in Lethbridge, AB at the age of 65 years.
He is survived by his children; Angela (Tony), Jamie and their mother Linda; Ricky (Norma), Amy (Todd), 
Jennifer (Nick) and their mother Lori; Amber, Ashley (Clayton), Christopher (Cassie) and his greatest 
loves, his grandchildren Caitlyn, Valkyrie, Little Girls, Faelen, Bad Egg, Chatter Box, Little Newf, 
Pooper, Newbie, Connor, Short Stuff, Stinker, Little Missy and Pumpkin.
Rick is also lovingly remembered by his five siblings and their spouses, nieces, nephews and many 
extended families.
He was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Simone and his brother Jerry.
Rick worked hard all of his life. He started in the coal mines in northern Manitoba then moved to 
Edmonton where he joined and served on the Edmonton City Police Force till his retirement.
He moved to Lethbridge where he enjoyed life with his children and most importantly, his grandchildren.
Rick was a devoted family man and an avid sports fan. He was a people person and had many friends with 
whom he was always willing to help out. Friends were always welcome into his home.
A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, 
Alberta on Friday, March 28th, 2014 At 10:00 A.M.
