It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Darren on June 29, 2014 at the
age of 53.

DUDER
CALVIN (CAL) DUDER passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, on
Saturday, June 28th, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Cal was born Nov. 15th, 1959 in Grand Falls, Nfld. but lived most of his life in Lethbridge and area. He
especially enjoyed working at CEP Automotive for the past 13 years where he developed many good
friendships. To Cal, the Management, staff and customers were all like family to him.
Cal is survived and loved by his daughter Tamara Duder of B.C. and her mother Laura Duder of Lethbridge.
He will be deeply missed by his special friend and companion, Marilyn Kuchuran.
He will be forever remembered by his sister Mechale Rowe (Gene) of Nfld., his brother Shawn (Donna)
Sadler of Bow Island and his sister Sharon Buckley (Mark) of Montana and their families.
Cal is also survived by his aunts and uncles including Mr. and Mrs. P. Harmes of Ontario, Mr. and Mrs. T.
Hannah of B.C. and his cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Claxton Duder and Joanne Rhodes, other family members as well as his
special step-father and friend, Bev “Pops” Rhodes.
He will be sadly missed by all the friends he made over the years. Cal has gone “Home to his Father”.
Cal requested that instead of flowers, donation be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.
A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 – Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge,
AB., on Monday, July 7th, 2014 at 1:00PM, with Reverend Trevor Potter officiating. Interment will follow

KATHARINE NEUFELD of Lethbridge, AB went to be with the Lord, surrounded by love and family, on June
30th, 2014. Born October 16th, 1928 to John and Agnes Friesen in Osler, Saskatchewan, she was the oldest
of nine children.
Mom was a full time homemaker, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Mom’s greatest joys
were her love for the Lord, her family, her friends and helping others. Mom had an unwavering faith in
God, which she shared through her actions, conversation and the distribution of paper tracts explaining
the gospel.
Mom leaves to mourn her passing and cherishing her memories her 5 children: Jack (Wilma), Arlo (Judy),
Russell (Gloria), Monica (Allan), Kurt (Kathy), 20 loving grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, 2
sisters, 1 brother, 2 sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00pm and 8:00pm on Friday, July 4, 2014 at
MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4th Street South, Lethbridge.

MAY THURSTON
1928 ~ 2014
Mrs. May Mildred Thurston of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Edward Thurston, passed away on
July 1st, 2014 at the age of 96 years.
May was born in Eston, Saskatchewan on April 28, 1918 to Lucy and William Wright. She grew up in Moose
Jaw, Saskatchewan with her brother Alex. May graduated in 1939 from the Saskatoon City Hospital as a
Registered Nurse. With her family values and nurse training, May provided a strong nurturing environment
to everyone she became acquainted with.May met Edward in Kindersley while ice skating, and their
relationship developed as they both moved to Fort Macleod where Ed worked for the RCAF and May worked as
a nurse. They married in Fort Macleod in 1941. After the war they moved to Lethbridge where Ed worked at
the Research Station until retirement and May raised the family and volunteered in thecommunity.
Southminster Church was foundational for May. She was a life member of the United Church Women (UCW), and
active in the Southern Alberta Presbytery. Many of May’s closest life-long friends were part of the UCW
48 group. In 1969, with support from the Women’s Interfaith Committee May established the Advice,
Information and Direction Referral Agency in Southminster Church to help people in need and build social
awareness. She served on the first Board of Meals on Wheels and volunteered as a meal courier for several
years. She was instrumental in the formation of the hospital Candy Strippers Program, and volunteered in
a children luncheon program with the support of Mr. Stafford, the then Southside Safeway’s manager.
May is predeceased by her husband Edward and her oldest daughter Patricia Diane Stewart. She is survived
by her children Ron (Barbara), Linda Perdue (Garth) and Bruce (Wendy). Her strong values will always be
remembered by her grandchildren Ryan (Angie), Tara (Brian), Lisa, Kasha, and Brynne and her thoughts will
always be with her great-grandsons Mason, and Rhys, and her nieces and nephews.
She will dearly be missed by all those who loved her and had the pleasure of being part of her life. She
truly will be remembered as a person who believed that caring for others and building community went hand
in hand. May spent her life giving selflessly and never wanted anything in return. She had a BIG heart!
Her will and spirit will always be remembered as she now joins Edward and Patricia in peace. May is and
will always be in our hearts.
The family thanks the staff of Green Acres Foundation and all the professional caring staff who grew to
know and love May at Extendicare. Many of you were a gift from God. The family is so grateful because you
showed you cared on such a personal level.
A Memorial Service will be held with family and friends. Dr. Austin Fennell, officiating at Southminster
Church on Monday July 7th, at 11:00 am.

IVY (nee WILLIAMS) NISH

June 28, 2014
The family of Ivy Nish are sad to announce her passing on Saturday, June 28, 2014. She was the cherished
wife of Robert Lee Nish (who predeceased her on January 13, 1983), mother of Gillian Nish, Robert
(Barbara) Nish and grandmother of Christopher Nish, great grandmother of Taylor and Zoe Nish, grandmother
of Cari (Ashley) Gibbons and great grandmother of Cameron and Quinn Gibbons, grandmother of Andrew Nish
(who predeceased her in 2011); grandmother of Stuart Nish and great grandmother of Miles and Hazel Nish,
mother of Arthur Nish and Dean (Heather) Nish, grandmother of Gordon (Morgan) Nish and great grandmother
of Isaac and Mia Nish; grandmother of Alanna Nish, Becky Nish, Alex Nish, Julie Nish and Liam Nish.
Ivy was born in Edgbaston, Birmingham, England and traveled to Canada in 1946 to become the bride of Lee
Nish in Cardston on October 3, 1946. They lived in Kimball, AB and moved into their own home that Lee
built on their farm located 16 miles southeast of Cardston. They resided there until Lee’s death in 1983
after which Ivy moved into Cardston. Ivy leaves many descendants from families of Lee’s predeceased
brothers and sisters, Ray (May) Nish, Frank (Hazel) Nish, Dave (Gladys) Schneider, Glen Nish and Lila
Nish.
She is survived by a very special sister in law Velma Nish and great friends Katie Jasperson and Marjorie
Little as well as many friends, neighbors and war brides who will treasure memories of Ivy.
British families of the deceased Williams include Ivy’s sisters Rose and Lily and brothers Dan, Arthur
and Jack are all remembered at this time.
Ivy has requested that there be no funeral and cremation has taken place. A private family interment will
occur at a later date.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Ivy was a dedicated volunteer in many community organizations and
events. She was well known in the community for her fun loving spirit and great humour. If you are so
inclined, please donate generously to your favorite charity or community need in Ivy’s name.

WILLIAMS-WOLF PLUME
September 18, 1993 – June 26, 2014
Samuel Kenton Williams-Wolf Plume “Muscles” beloved son of Karen Williams and Samuel Wolf Plume passed
into the spirit world in the early morning hours of June 26, 2014, near Butte, Montana. He is survived by
his parents: son Bently; brother Ryan and nephew Hayden; sister Lacey and niece Alexis; aunties and
uncles: Hilda (Ralph), Linda (Calvin), Calvin, Elroy One Owl, Eddie Laroque, Francis (James), Lionel
(Jessica), Norma (Glen), Anne Wilson Schaef (Chuck), Pete Sidley, Connie Wolf Plume, Wilbert Wolf Plume.
Kenton was born in Calgary at the Holy Cross Hospital, graduated from Victoria Park High School in 2012
and was planning to enroll at the University of Lethbridge for the 2015 term. Kenton travelled to
numerous spiritual ceremonies in Canada and the USA to support his mother Karen and also participated in
these events because of his strong belief in traditional First Nation spirituality. He was a self-taught
tattoo artist and was often asked by his friends and family to “cut” their hair, creating unique designs.
During his most recent trip, Kenton shared one of his other talents of creating Origami, sitting with his younger cousins and teaching them the process of creating the delicate pieces. He also enjoyed composing
and singing rap music.
Kenton was predeceased by his Maternal Grandparents: Victor and Alice Williams; Great Grandparents: Bad
Arm and Paula Blackhorse, Harry Williams and Sarah Ramsey; his Paternal Grandparents, Sam Rider and
Josephine Wolf Plume; Great Grandparents, Many Different Birds and Yellow Rider and Skinny Rider and Iron
Old Woman; his aunts and uncles, Theresa (Conrad), Peggy (George), Aurbina, Sharon, Clement and Joyce.
Kenton had numerous relatives from Hollow Water Manitoba, Peguis Manitoba, the Blood Reserve and the USA.
A Wake Service will be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve on Friday, July 4th from 6:00 to
11:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Blood Reserve on Saturday, June
5th at 11:00 a.m. with Father Pawel Andrasz officiating. Interment in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Blood
Reserve.

Betty Glen of Lundbreck, sister-in-law DuWayne Tivadar of Lethbridge and by many wonderful nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Steve Tivadar; parents Steve and Mary Petek; brother Stefan Petek;
father-in-law and mother-in-law Josef and Gisela Tivadar; brother and sister-in-law Lewis and Myrna
Petek; brother Frank Petek and sister-in-law Yutta Brown; brothers-in-law Don Glen, Joe Tivadar and great
grandson Anthony Joevenazzo.
Mary was born on January 13, 1926 in Lipa, Yugoslavia, the first child of Steve and Mary Petek. She
immigrated to Canada in 1933 with her mother, joining her father in Vauxhall. The family set down roots
and Mary started school at New West District. She worked as her father¹s hired hand until she moved to
Lethbridge to ³try it² on her own. She worked at the hospital in the kitchen, then decided the city
wasn¹t for her and returned to work on the family farm. She loved working outside. Mary met Steve when he
came to the farm to purchase some pigs. They immediately connected and were married on January 22, 1949.
They bought a farm in Glenwood a few years later and were raising their five children and expecting their
sixth. On a summer¹s day in July 1961, the unimaginable happened. Steve lost his life in a plane crash.
In the spring of 1962, Mary sold the farm and moved her family to Lethbridge. There she created a
wonderful, loving home for her children. She had wonderful neighbors and lived in her home until she was
eighty three. Mary was passionate about her garden and her flowers. She made the best Chicken Noodle soup
and was famous for her chocolate chip cookies. She was less famous for always having at least six
vegetables on her dinner table. She made beautiful paper tole creations for her family. Mary loved to
dance and would take on anyone in a round of mini golf. She had great faith and was a devote member of
St. Basil¹s Catholic Church for fifty three years.
Mary loved her people. She had wonderful girlfriends Pearl, Doreen, Katie and Ella. They spent many
Saturdays doing lunch, dinner and a movie. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her
greatest joy. She was everyone¹s biggest cheerleader. She left this world surrounded by family while
stories were told, laughs were shared and tears were shed. She will be missed but we are so happy she is
with her one great love.
If friends so desire, those wishing to make a contribution are encouraged to send flowers in honour of
Mary¹s love for gardening.
Mary lived out the last year of her life at Legacy Lodge. The family wish to extend their heartfelt
thanks to the staff there for all their understanding, care and compassion. They were AMAZING. Thanks to
her We Care gals who never failed to make her day brighter.
