ROLLINGSON
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mayda Rollingson after her short but courageous
battle with cancer on July 16, 2014 with family by her side at the age of 54 years.
Mayda is predeceased by her son Brian Rollingson but will be forever lovingly remembered by her beloved
husband, Lenn Rollingson, her daughter Shauna Rollingson (Jeff Landry), Lenn’s sons Neil and Dan
(Stephanie) Rollingson, and Grandma to grandson, Jonah.
Daughter of Evert and Meiny Velhuizen, Mayda will be sadly missed by her siblings Arie (Rhea) Velhuizen,
Willy (Wendy) Velhuizen, Jennie (Gil) Hakze, Evelyn (Tim) Donkersgoed, and special friends Sabine (Andre)
Roussel, Lisa Littlejohn, and so many others.
“Schnookie”, as Lenn adoringly called her, could usually be found with a good book in her hand or new
cross-stitch pattern. Her fondness of crafts was obvious throughout their home; every room displayed an
item Mayda had lovingly put her time into. One to greet you with a bright smile and kind word, Mayda lit
up a room like a ray of sunshine.
Mayda worked at Hills Pantry as their head cashier in her early years, then while her children were young
she became a stay at home mom, always ready with a fun craft and warm hug. Later on, she greatly enjoyed
working at the Wainwright Canex, always trying to make someone’s morning a little better with her happy
greetings.
Mayda’s quiet courage, strength of spirit, creativity and sense of humour will be carried forwards by
those eho knew and loved her. She was taken far too soon and will be greatly missed by all.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at the COALDALE COMMUNITY CENTRE, 1217, 20TH Ave., on Monday, July
21, 2014 at 1:00 P.M.

SHARON FRIZZLEY
(FORMERLY WHALEN)
It is with profound sadness that the family of Sharon Mae Frizzley announces her passing, which occurred
on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the age of 64.
Sharon was born on March 11, 1950 in Treherne, Manitoba, where she was raised and attended school,
eventually earning a clerical diploma from Red River College in Winnipeg. It was while residing in
Manitoba that she gave birth to her five children, for whom she went on to sacrifice so much.
In 1980 the family moved to Coaldale, Alberta. Sharon was instrumental in establishing ringette in
Coaldale, and received a Government of Canada Celebration 88 medal in recognition of her community
involvement. In her late thirties Sharon bravely began pursuing her lifelong goal of teaching, beginning
with earning her high school diploma. In and amongst continuing her education she held her family
together through a major crisis, at times working three or more jobs at a time. In 1995 she graduated
from the University of Lethbridge with an Education degree, majoring in History and Art. So began a three
year period spent searching for her first teaching job. A period which, in 1997, included her initial
cancer diagnosis.
Sharon began her career in Fox Lake, Alberta before moving on to North Tall Cree, Alberta. On November
11, 2000 she met Randy Gurtler. Sharon and Randy hit it off right away, and their romance was born. In
2002, while working on renovations for what would become her and Randy’s dream home, Sharon suffered a
fall, which led to the X-ray that revealed the cancer had returned.
Prior to the start of the 2002/2003 school year, Sharon was hired to be the lone teacher in a one room
school at Breaking Point School, outside of Manning, Alberta. She loved her new environment and
especially the children, and was devoted and passionate, remaining so for the entire 8 plus years she
taught “her” kids. She had the partner, home, and job she always wanted. On November 11, 2010, ten years
to the day of meeting, Sharon and Randy were married in the Deadwood Church. She went on to teach at
Dixonville School, showing that same devotion and passion right up to the end of this past school year,
which proved to be her last. While her disease at times caused her to be physically absent from class,
her school, classroom, and students were never far from mind. In the years following her second
diagnosis, Sharon travelled to Seattle, New York, and Chicago, attending major league baseball games in
each city. She never let her disease limit or define her, fighting a very private battle. On the morning
of Wednesday, July 16, 2014, Sharon passed away surrounded by family, on her deck, overlooking her dream.
Sharon is survived by her husband Randy Gurtler, her children Marty, Troy (Amey), Trent (Amber), Kristy
(Brian), and Curtis, grandchildren Isabelle, Haley, Luke, Leah, Abigail, and one more soon to arrive,
sister Lynn Clark (Wayne) and brother Bill Frizzley (Jean), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Doreen Frizzley, nephew Mark, and by her very well cared
for and beloved dog Luther.

Terry Kunimoto
1951 – 2014
Terry-Ann Kunimoto (nee Weir, formerly Chadwick), wife of Bruce Kunimoto, passed away in Taber on
Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the age of 62 years.
We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Terry during her sixty two years, among them – Never
pass up an opportunity for a party. St Patrick¹s Day is the best opportunity to celebrate being Irish,
regardless where your ancestors come from. Egg fights make a great Easter celebration. Goofy,
personalized poems mean Happy Birthday with love.
Terry was born and raised in Saskatchewan and was a devoted Roughriders fan, convinced that her choice of
game day shirt had a direct impact on the outcome of games. She also had a deep love of children, and
showed her love through countless bowls of macaroni and ichiban soup shared while she read a lunchtime
story. Even as she found herself unable to continue working, Terry sought opportunities to help kids
learn to read by volunteering in local schools.
Swimming, aquafit and activities at the pool were among Terry¹s favorite ways to stay fit. She could
often be found walking and remained a cheerleader at curling events even after she was no longer able to
play. Her love of God inspired her service to her church, where she was Superintendent of Sunday School
and offered insight on many committees.
Above all, Terry was an amazing friend, famously asking all guests to ³excuse the mess and come on in for
coffee². Her ability to connect with many, coupled with her mischievous love of play and crazy sense of
humor, endeared her to friends new and old.
Her spirit is carried on by her husband, children and grandchildren whose photos covered her refrigerator
and china cabinet. Besides Bruce, she is survived by her four daughters and their families, Dawn (husband
Ryan, children Nathaniel and Wyatt); Leisa (husband Tom, children Tianna, Marieka and Elias); Tamara;
Erin (husband Chris); sisters Nancy and Pat; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and family too
numerous to list, but not forgotten.
The Funeral Service will be held at Knox United Church, 4929 – 50 Avenue, Taber on Monday, July 21, 2014
at 2:00 P.M. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at http://www.southlandfuneral.com
