BROOKS
RITA BROOKS, beloved wife of the late Winton Brooks, passed away in Lethbridge on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the age of 81 years. Funeral arrangements will be announced when completed.

COOK
It is with deep sadness that the family of Alfred Roland Cook announces his passing on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the age of 82. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 25, 1932 in Pincher Creek to parents Alvie and Laura, Rollie remained in Pincher Creek his entire life. He worked with his brothers building the family business of oilfield and highway construction started by his father. He was always actively involved in his community lending his expertise and time where needed, whether building the ski hill or the local ball diamonds. One of his greatest passions was his yard as he spent countless hours keeping it perfectly manicured. His other passions included traveling and flying the company airplane. Rollie was a very proud, devoted and inspirational husband, father, grand and great grandfather passing along his strong work ethic and attention to detail. Rollie will be dearly missed by his son Richard (Susan) and their children Chelsea (Greg), Robin and Sean; daughter Brenda Kay and her children Stephanie (Sean), Megan (B.J.), and Brett; daughter Patricia Oczkowski (Wayne) and their children Wilson (Leslie), Aaron (Nikki) and Jade (Travis); daughter Sheila Lowe (Dave) and their children Jason (Lindsay) and Tyler (Marie); daughter Susanne Garner (Marc) and their children Colton (Shaelynn) and Graydon; 7 great grandchildren; brothers Don (Alice) and Ken (Linda), sister Virginia (Ray) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He will be forever missed by his long time and special friend Pat Hooper. He was predeceased by his wife Ethel, his parents, his brother Richard and son-in-law Dean Kay. A celebration of Rollie¹s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday September 3, 2014 at the PINCHER CREEK UNITED CHURCH, 972 Police Ave, Pincher Creek, AB with Reverend Brent Woodard Officiating. GOLDIE ELAINE SNOWDEN
APRIL 4, 1921 ­ AUGUST 24, 2014
Goldie Elaine Snowden, beloved wife of the late Ernest MacIndoe Snowden, passed away at St. Therese Villa, Lethbridge, Alberta on Sunday, August 24th at the age of 93 years. Goldie was born on April 4, 1921 on the family homestead at Barons, Alberta, the eldest of five children born to Janet and Carl Kittleson. Goldie loved school and, after finishing Normal at Calgary, Alberta, took up teaching in 1939. She began her long teaching career at Ridgeway, a one-room school near Carmangay and came to White School in 1941. White School was near and later centralized into McNally School where she also taught. An accomplished pianist, Goldie played accordion in a local band and attended the weekly dances at White School where she met Ernie Snowden. Married on May 1, 1942 in Barons, they followed Ernie¹s flying career in the RCAF. It took them to Ottawa and Arnprior in Ontario, and High River in Alberta. On his discharge they returned to Lethbridge and then settled on the family dairy farm south east of the city. They raised a family and Goldie fed all those working on the farm in the early years. She was an exceptional seamstress, making most of her own clothes, and went on to share her skills with the Lethbridge 4H Sewing Club. She was also active in the local community association and its women¹s group, Southminster United Church, the Lethbridge and District Exhibition (where Ernie was President and chaired Livestock, Racing, Rodeo and other committees over their many years), the Lethbridge Seniors Association and the Lethbridge Historical Society. She was heavily involved in the publication of Water Works Wonders, the community history of the White, Wilson, McMahon & River Junction School Districts. Goldie and Ernie loved to dance ­ square, round and modern. Goldie was also an avid bridge player. Goldie was predeceased by her parents Carl Salvason Kittleson and Janet Morris Goldie; her brother Morris, and her husband Ernest (September 25, 2006). She is survived by her sisters Caroline Kroshinsky (Lethbridge) and Maxine McClellan (Arcadia, California); her brother Alan (Lethbridge); her three children, Barry Snowden (Marion, Lethbridge), Sandra Valgardson (Brad, Taber) and Suzanne Gillman (Miles, London England); 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Goldie touched many lives and will be greatly missed. As per Goldie¹s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A family graveside service was held on August 28, 2014. James “Jim” formerly of Taber, AB, passed from this life on August 27, 2014, in the Porcupine- Carragana Hospital, Porcupine Plain, SK, at the age of 57 years. Jim is survived by his wife Audrey Jeffrey (nee Parker), their children: Jason Jeffrey, Dustin (Nikki) Jeffrey, Jason Nieuwenhuis, Brandon Nieuwenhuis, Angie (Mike) Ross, Christine (Tim) Wright, and Angela (Jamie) Woolford; 16 grandchildren; brother Ernie (Pat) Jeffrey; sister Deb (Herb) Piecowye; brother- in-law Chuck (Jacquie) Parker; and numerous relatives and friends. MELVIN FRANKLIN VIERGUTZ
1931 ~ 2014
We are saddened to announce the passing of Mel Viergutz, beloved husband of Elaine Viergutz, on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the age of 83 after a brief battle with cancer. Mel was born on the family farm in Dahinda, Sask., on May 12, 1931, to Leo and Christina Viergutz. Mel married his wife Elaine on July, 2nd, 1954. Mel trained as a power lineman in Regina, and they moved to Lethbridge in 1957 where Mel trained as a Journeyman Electrician with Parsons Electric. After 18 years at Parsons, Mel moved to the City of Lethbridge Electric Dept., and worked for 18 years maintaining City buildings, facilities, and substations retiring in 1991. As a Saskatchewan farm boy, Mel was skilled in building or repairing anything. Later in life Mel began restoring antique automobiles and became a member of the Southern Alberta Antique & Classic Auto Club. Mel is survived by his loving wife Elaine and children Kevin (Barb), Dale (Jan), Sharon Walsh (Steve) and Wendy Fitzsimmons (Dustin); grandchildren Kimberly Ellen (David), Taneal, Matthew, Olivia and Ty. He’s also survived by sister Lucille Duke, brother Mervin (Faye), sister in law Julia, sister in law Phyl Harrison (Fred), brother in laws Art, Steve (Pearl), Phillip (Jean) Stratulat and numerous nieces and nephews. Mel was predeceased by his parents Christina and Leo, brother Rob, sisters Barbara, Alvira, and Marge, and in laws John and Sophie Stratulat. Mr. Milan Cupric of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Hilda, passed away on Friday August 15, 2014 at the age of 90 at St. Michael¹s Health Centre (Palliative Care) after a courageous battle with cancer.
Milan was born in Knic, Serbia on December 23, 1923 and immigrated to Canada in 1948. He married his wife Hilda in 1953 and lived in the Crowsnest Pass where he worked for Summit Lime Works for 40 years, until his retirement in 1990. He then moved to Lethbridge where he spent his time enjoying gardening, walking and being a handyman around the house. Milan was a devoted family man and father that provided his children with support and guidance. He encouraged them to work hard, and ensured they were given the best opportunities in life. Family gatherings were always cherished by him as they were special moments with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were rays of sunshine in his life. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his loving family and friends. At this time, we would like to thank and acknowledge the compassionate care he received from caregivers and the staff at St. Michael¹s Health Centre (Palliative Care) and Alberta Home Services (Home Care). He is survived by his loving wife Hilda, daughter Ruta and son Harry; grandchildren Lindsey and Kaley; great-grandchildren Michaela, Sadie, Parker and Rylee and his sisters Milanka and Slobodanka. PENNIFOLD
JOHN RICHARD PENNIFOLD, beloved husband of Shelley Pennifold, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the age of 65 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Shelley, and four precious daughters: Karen (Tom), Alison (Mike), Kim (Jeremy) and Becky (Jason). Grandchildren: Gabby, Lexi, Aisleigh, Kingston, Hudson and Aubrey. He is also survived by his sister Susan (Brian) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father (Richard), mother (Gladys) of Nanton, Alberta and grandson, Harley (Lethbridge). John had an affinity for landscaping, woodworking, crafts and puzzles. He further enjoyed golfing, curling, horse shoes and spending time with family and friends. One of John’s milestones in life and proudest accomplishment recognized by family and friends was achieving sobriety. He will be sorely missed and remembered by many. PETER HARRIS
1930 ­ 2014
Peter was born in Cambridge, England in 1930 and immigrated to Canada to attend UBC graduating with a degree in Forestry. He was an outstanding athlete winning the Fred Tees Memorial Trophy in 1953 for most outstanding Track and Field Athlete. Peter met and married his wife Irene in 1957. Together, they have three children: Tim (Elizabeth), Carolyn (Brian) and Kate (Ed) and seven grandchildren. Peter obtained his PhD in Entomology and was employed by Agriculture Canada in Belleville, ON, Regina, SK and Lethbridge, AB. As a Research Scientist working in Biological Control of noxious weeds, he lectured and published papers throughout the world. Among his numerous awards, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1997. Peter truly “seized the day” and was passionate about hiking, running, cycling, swimming, skiing and gardening. PRINDLE
Nancy Prindle passed away August 27, 2014, at the age of 74. She leaves behind 5 children, Kim (Gayle), Kevin (Carmen), David (Michelle), Meridee (Allan), Colleen Mcleod, 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She also leaves 2 sisters Janet and Marlene (Fred). Nancy was born October 4, 1939 in Shelby, Montana. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and watching both curling and the NFL. Nancy loved golfing and walking with her friends. She will always be remembered for her infectious laugh, bright smile and those delicious homemade buns and cinnamon rolls. Mom worked as an LPN in extended care. She retired from the palliative unit at St. Michael¹s where she had cared for many patients and their families. Service to be held Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Augustine¹s Anglican Church. ETHEL LILLIAN VAILLANCOURT, beloved wife of Wayne Vaillancourt of Lethbridge, passed away at the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the age of 70 years. Ethel is survived by Philbert Deschamps of Calgary, AB, Robert (Sharon) Deschamps of Lethbridge, AB, Sharon (Alex) Daka of Lethbridge, AB, Duane (Melanie) Vaillancourt of Lethbridge, AB, and Todd Vaillancourt of Ontario, Michelle Vaillancourt of Fort Macleod, AB. She is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Wayne Vaillancourt, Bula Jones, Wayne Jones, Barb Jones, Charlie Jones and Bobby Gambel. Ethel is predeceased by baby Wayne Deschamps, Reggie Jones, mother Hazel Lillian, father Eldrich Sydney, mother-in-law Audrey Mabel and father-in-law Ernest Vaillancourt.
Ethel was a devoted loving woman to her husband, children, grandchildren, and to her Faith in Jesus. She was always helping anyone in need with a smile and a kind loving word. She will be greatly missed.

Ron married Janet Evanson in 1965 and together they raised six children. Ron loved horses, Scouting, working with youth and people in general. He worked hard and played harder. Ron had a deep love of the gospel of Jesus Christ and spent countless hours sharing it with others. In the last few years, Ron was obsessed with learning about near death experiences. Winogene Adele Luehr, beloved wife of the late Paul Luehr, passed away in Taber on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the age of 93 years.
