FLORA PAULENCE
1922 ~ 2015
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Flora Paulence on February 6, 2015 at the age of 92 in Lethbridge, Alberta, after a lengthy illness at Good Samaritans Park Meadows. Flora was the beloved wife of the late Bill Paulence. Flora was born on May 25, 1922 in Regina, Saskatchewan, where she also attended school. Flora married Bill in 1940 in Regina and then moved to Bill¹s family farm in Willington, Alberta. Together they left the family farm and moved to Edmonton. Following their time in Edmonton, Flora moved to the Barnwell area after the purchase of their own farm. In 1955, Flora and Bill moved to Lethbridge and she worked as a seamstress at local businesses until her retirement. Flora kept active during her retirement as a seamstress, from her home. Friends and family will fondly remember spending time in Flora¹s sewing room, getting fitted, measured and sometimes poked by pins, as she carefully measured pant hems, dresses and anything else she could make with her many yards of fabric. In addition to her amazing talent as a seamstress, Flora was also an excellent chef, baker and crafter. Flora was a quiet, sweet lady with a selfless and giving way. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. Flora and Bill also loved to travel and had many adventures, including trips to Alaska, California, Nevada and Romania.
Flora is survived by her daughter Yvonne (Murray) Mills & their children Michelle (Bill) Mills Daenan, Cathy (Marty) King & great-grandson Vance, and Scott Mills & great-grandson Cole; her son Ron (Helen) Paulence and their children Troy (Tammy) Paulence & great-granddaughters Tory & MacKenzie, Todd Paulence & great-grandchildren Mary and Eric Wauters, & Rhonda (Rick) Aos & great-grandchildren Zac & Allie; her sister Rose Rohovie & daughter Dianne Hansen; sisters-in-law Eleanor (George) Biholar, Kay (John) Biholar; as well as nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Bill; brothers George and John Biholar; sister Helen. The family would like to send a very special thank you to all of the wonderful staff from Cottage 6 at Park Meadows Good Samaritans, where our Mother has been cared for since 2008. FRANCES LYON
1938 ~ 2015
Frances Elaine Lyon of Lethbridge passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Edith Cavell Care Center following her courageous and inspiring battle with ALS. Her family and friends, and the entire staff of Cavell Court, will forever remember Fran for facing the disease with dignity, grace and kindness to all. She will be so tremendously missed, but we were all so blessed to have been with her on her journey and to have been a part of her life. Fran was born on August 20, 1938 to Lindsay “Slim” and Irene Reed of Springside, Saskatchewan. She and her older sister Elsie moved with the family to Lethbridge in 1948 and 4 years later they welcomed sister Judi. Lethbridge is where she met her future husband, Eric Franklin Lyon, and they were wed on August 11, 1962. In 1965, they welcomed their first daughter Gwen followed by Charlene in 1967. Fran was a stay-at-home-mom who enjoyed sewing, baking, knitting, square dancing and socializing with neighbors. After her beloved husband Eric passed away suddenly in 1978, she returned to the work-force supporting her girls and putting herself through college where her daughters proudly saw her graduate from the recreational therapy program at LCC. After graduation, she worked at The Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization until her retirement in 2000. It was then that she returned to her favorite “job”, that of full-time mom and grandma. Also during this time, she devoted numerous volunteer hours to the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, Meals on Wheels and Little Lambs Christian Preschool as well as being an active member at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Fran¹s kind, gentle, and genuine nature always attracted people to her and through her many family, social, church, and volunteer activities, she touched so many lives. Fran was predeceased by her husband Eric Lyon (1978), sister Elsie Stoeckel (1991), father Lindsay “Slim” Reed (1995), and mother Irene Reed (2013). Fran is survived by her sister Judith Reed (James Campbell), daughters Gwen Reimer (Harv), Charlene Lyon (Daryl Lindgren), and grandchildren Tasya Bajraktarevic, Brenden Lindgren, and Lauren and Alexa Reimer. She is also survived by sisters and brothers in law and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH: 20 Rocky Mountain Boulevard West, Lethbridge, AB with Pastor Nathan Fuehrer, officiating. A family graveside service will precede the memorial and refreshments will be served in the church facilities following. Flowers are respectfully declined. JACOB SIEMENS
1925 ~ 2015
Mr. Jacob Siemens of Coaldale, beloved husband of Mrs. Regina Siemens passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the age of 89, Jacob is now with his Lord and Savior.
Jacob was born in Lost River, SK on March 2, 1925. He worked for the County of Lethbridge for over 25 years as road grader operator. Jacob was predeceased by his first wife Amanda; his parents Johan & Susan Siemens; his six siblings Margaret Reimer, Elizabeth Unger, John Siemens, Susan Caleo, Helen Buhler and Mary Kroeker; 2 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild. He leaves behind his loving wife Regina, his eight children Robert Siemens, Judith Siemens, Harold (Marilyn) Huckaby, Deloris (Jim) Doolittle, Faye (David) Salter, Gordon (Stacey) Huckaby, Bill (Beverley) Huckaby, Connie (Don) Brown; four sisters Agnes Martens, Tim (Kay) Siemens, Ann Winters and Justina; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren.

KADONAGA
MR. MINORU S. KADONAGA, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 7th, 2015 at the age of 90 years. Minoru is lovingly remembered by his two children, Karen Hooper (John Kiefuik) of Lethbridge and Sharon (Darrell) Beddome of Jaffray, B.C., grandchildren James (Caraley) Hooper, Stacey (Nathan Silsbe) Hooper, Darrell (Amanda) Beddome, Darren (Kristi Broccolo) Beddome, Candice (Richard) Bennett and Chris (Alisa) Beddome, as well as twelve great-grandchildren, step-daughter Ada Red Crow and step-son Clarence Red Crow and sister Peggy (Hiroshi) Kitagawa, as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his spouse Ada Kadonaga on June 6, 2004 as well as three brothers and three sisters. Born July 17, 1924 son of Toru and Some Kadonaga. He was born and raised on Mayne Island, BC where his family remained until 1942.. At this time they were moved to the Magrath area to work a Sugar Beet Farm. Min met Ada and raised two daughters. He worked as a Sawyer in various locations in B.C. They settled in the Creston area where they built their home and worked a small orchard. When he wasn¹t working his favorite past-time was fishing, a passion he passed on to his grandchildren. On his retirement they moved to Lethbridge to be close to Karen and Sharon and their families. He loved to watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports and spend time with his family. A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERESTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. with Deacon Frank Peta officiating.

MELVIN FLOYD COWIE
1924 ~ 2015
Mr. Melvin Floyd Cowie of Picture Butte, beloved husband of wife Iris June Cowie, passed away peacefully in Picture Butte on February 7, 2015 at the age of 90 years. Melvin was born on November 2, 1924 to George Melvin Cowie and Nina Belle Buck, the eldest of three boys. He completed his education in Rocky Mountain House, AB and in 1944 he married Iris June Gray. Eventually settling in Barons, AB with June and sons Terry and Robert, Melvin began his successful 40 year career as a massage therapist and his patients came from all over the world. Mel was instrumental in establishing the Massage Therapy Association of Alberta, he was a member of the Lethbridge Masonic Lodge, the Barons Legion, the Barons Elks and the Eastern Star. Melvin¹s mission in life was simply to help others however he could. Besides his loving wife, Melvin is survived by his sons Terry (Yvonne) and Robert (Lynn); grandchildren Jeff (Laureen), Haedyn, Madelyn Cowie, Greg (Asheley), Liam, Grayson Cowie, Jocelyn Doyle (Darcy), Jennifer Cowie (Justin Giles), Bryan (Katie) Cowie. STANLEY JOHN POPSON
1936 ~ 2015
The wonderful and generous Stan Popson of Lethbridge, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at home on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the age of 78 years. Stan was born on the family homestead in West Lethbridge on March 4, 1936 to the late Steve and Sophie Popson. He attended Coalhurst School. He hired on with the Lethbridge Brewery in 1957 in the bottle shop and went on to become a Millwright with until his retirement 1990. Stan will forever be remembered for his unconditional love and kindness, workmanship, witty sense of humor and for always having and open door policy for anyone who needed it. Stan will be lovingly remembered by his children Cheryl Marchuk, Dorothy (Bruce) Popson, Janis (Rob) Overn, Darren Popson and their mother Loretta; grandchildren Jeff Popson, Josh (Char) Marchuk, Brett Marchuk, Holly (Jerrod) Verhaest, Bobbi (Justin) Zuccatto, and Bo Popson; great-grandchildren Felix Popson and Jadie Zuccatto; sisters Annie Stoakley and Helen (Jim) Betts; brother Frank (Pat) Popson; sister-in-law Stella Popson; special nephews, nieces, and their families; as well as numerous special friends and caring neighbours. TURNBULL
Passed away at Pincher Creek Hospital on February 3rd, 2015, Rodney William Turnbull at the age of 65 years. He was the beloved husband of Carol-Ann (Opperman) and loving father of Curtis (Nanette) Turnbull and Shannon (Graham) Scherger all of Pincher Creek. He was dearly loved by grandchildren Tyler and Tomas Scherger and Kimberly, Kelly and Dyllan Turnbull. Also surviving Rodney are siblings, Alice (Richard) Chase of Lethbridge, Beverley (Ed) Potter of Monarch and Gordon Turnbull of Pincher Creek. He was predeceased by parents Bill (W.J.) and Annie Turnbull. WILLIAMS, HELEN MCLAREN
October 25, 1918 to February 8, 2015
With our hearts filled with sadness and love, we said good-bye to our dear Mom, Grandma and G.G. She passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Trish & Glen Gurr, 12 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. “Grandma Dynamite” leaves us with many loving and funny memories from her long and fulfilled life. She was predeceased by her husband Bob, daughter Karen, son Jim as well as all 6 of her siblings. Special thanks to the staff at Oilfields Hospital in Black Diamond and to the Southwood Hospice for their excellent and sympathetic care. A family service will be held on a later date.
