The Lethbridge Hurricanes are set to introduce their new head coach to the public today at 3 p.m. — along with a few special guests.
It’s anticipated the Canes will name former Calgary Hitmen assistant general manager and associate coach Brent Kisio as the franchise’s newest head coach.
Kisio, 32, is the son of former NHLer Kelly Kisio. Kelly is president of hockey operations for the Calgary Hitmen.
Brent Kisio won’t be the only reason for Hurricanes fans to come to the press conference at the Enmax Centre lounge — the team is also expected to have 2014 second overall bantam draft selection Jordy Bellerive and several other Canes prospects there.
Last season, the Hurricanes cleared out their coach and general manager in mid-December and hired Peter Anholt. Anholt took over the rest of the way but said in the off-season he did not intend to return in both jobs. He told the media he was working from a list of three names — and Kisio was on that list.
Kisio has been a member of the Hitmen hockey operations for eight seasons, five as either an assistant or the associate coach. He played hockey at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and graduated with a degree in criminology.
