ELLA GRACE COOK (née Green), of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Harold Cook, passed away peacefully at the Legacy Lodge, on Monday September 3, 2018 at the age of 91 years.

She is survived by her three sons: Layne (Nancy) of Lethbridge, Trevor (Pierre) of Montreal and Tyler (Janet) of Lethbridge; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Michael) Brunelle, Cheryl (Charles) Smith, Ryan Cook, Shawn (Sylvia) Cook, Evan (fiancé Ainsley) Cook; five great-grandchildren: Alyssa and Kayla Brunelle, Alex Smith, and Isla and Ella Cook, two sisters Doris Keller of Dawson Creek and Georgeana Pankhurst of Lethbridge, as well as her in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Ethel Green, brothers Van, Jack and Bill and sisters Margaret, May and Maxine.

Ella was born in Nobleford and was raised and educated in the Newlands area. Ella worked for United Rambler and Prebuilt Industries. Ella loved to garden and after she retired, enjoyed travelling as well as camping and fishing. Her family was a very important part of her life and she will be sadly missed by them.

A Visitation and Reception will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

CREIGHTON

It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of our beloved ALROY JOHN CREIGHTON JR. Alroy was born on January 10th, 1983 and passed away suddenly at the age of 35, on August 28th, 2018 in Calgary, AB. Alroy was raised in Calgary where he attended elementary through to high school, he also attended Mount Royal University. While in elementary he joined the running club and participated in many racing events throughout the city. In his earlier childhood years, he participated in the treaty 7 summer games where he excelled in track and field, soccer, and baseball, taking home 3rd place with his sister Lennie. Alroys strong character, old spirit and humble soul shone through at a very young age. He was a very helpful, thoughtful and loving young boy. Always making it a point to ensure his mother, Angela Cutter (whom he cherished), was ok. Not wanting her to be too overworked. He would often take the lead in cleaning. Even telling her to relax and rest at times. As he grew he travelled with his parents to various basketball tournaments, as well as many family functions. He enjoyed summer vacations and family trips to B.C. and the U.S.A. As he matured he became an avid basketball fan developing a flawless 3-point shot. He played for the Calgary Eastview Basketball Association for 3 years, also winning the provincial championship with his team. His biggest fan, always in tow, was his Grandmother Mary Standing Alone. You could hear her cheering her 3 grandsons (Jr, Devon & Ryan) on and yelling out “Geh, Niitakit!” He also played for his high school team “The Thunderbirds” dominating the courts and taking the win. He also played with team Skyforce in numerous basketball tournaments with his dad, Lawrence B.S.H, brothers, cousins and uncles. Throughout his teen years he developed a love for drumming and sang with the Plains Indians drum group, attending performances and pow wows throughout Alberta. He was also an active participant in the partnership between the Plains Indians Cultural Survival School with Glenbow Museum and the formation of the exhibit “Circle of Honour: Our Heroes Give Us Hope”. Alroy attended the Trade Winds to Success program in Calgary Alberta obtaining a Carpentry Journeymen 1st year certificate in 2011. He also attended and completed the Another Way Program in 2016 and the Lifeskills Program in 2017 on the Blood Reserve. Alroy was very creative and had a passion for drawing, writing poetry and his own lyrics. He also had a profound love for music, anything that resonated with life and experience. Alroy was a unique and deep thinker often able to pick others up when needed. He always knew what to say and was very wise in his humour and choice of words. Alroy was a caring, loving, humble man with a heart of gold. Always helping others when they needed it and never expecting anything in return. He always made himself the centre of jokes often responding with his “Tssaaa…” n laughing. His laugh was a contagious, joyous one always leaving you with a smile. Alroys pride and joy was his children and the love of his life Jessie Morning Bird, whom he loved more than the heavens themselves.

A Family service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home Cardston, AB at 5:00 pm on Friday September 7th, 2018. Wake service to follow at White Calf Hall Standoff, AB at 7:00 pm continuing overnight. Funeral Service to begin at 12:00 pm at White Calf Hall, Standoff, AB on Saturday September 8th, 2018.

EGGLI

1942 – 2018

SHEILA VINCENT EGGLI, beloved wife of Garry Eggli, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at the St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the age of 76 years.

Besides her husband of 56 years, Garry, Sheila is survived by her children Ward (Sue) Eggli of Lethbridge and Mark (Charlene) Eggli of Sherwood Park, AB. as well as five grandchildren: Paige (William) Douglas, Chase Eggli, Danica Eggli, Katie Eggli and Ryley Eggli and three great-grandchildren: Alfred Douglas, Arthur Douglas and Archie Douglas.

She is also survived by her Mother In Law, Mable Eggli of St Theresa Villa in Lethbridge, Her sister Carol (Ken) McAgy of Penticton BC, Her brother Clive (Cherie) Kahn of Victoria BC, Sister In Law’s Carol (Carl) Hayes, Debbie (Bruce) Reinhart, Brother In Law Chuck (Kathy) Eggli, and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends that will miss her dearly.

Sheila was predeceased by her father William Fredrick Kahn, her mother Emma Griffen, her sister Doris Cromwell and her son William “Billy” Eggli.

Sheila was born in Edmonton on July 17,1942. She was passionate about knitting, family, their Dog Carley “Pumpkin” and animals in general. She took pleasure in spending time at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization (LSCO) and volunteering her time.

She enjoyed travel and especially camping in the Okanogan with family almost every year of her life. She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends as a women who loved her family and enjoyed spending many wonderful times with them.

Sheila and her family are so very grateful for the care she received at the Lethbridge Chinook Regional Hospital (CRH), Chronic Kidney Disease Clinic by Dr. Morley Wong and his staff. The family would like to thank the staff at the CRH – floor 4C and St. Michaels Health Center – Palliative Care Unit for the support and kindness that was shown to them and Sheila during her time with them.

EILEEN PATRICIA HABDAS, beloved wife of the late John Bruno Habdas, passed away surrounded by family at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at the age of 82 years.

COLIN R. HARROWING

10 July 1932 – 3 September 2018

Husband, lover, partner, best friend, and teammate to his wife Ruth, and the steady glow that guided his three children Jean, Douglas, and Gordon through their lives, Colin was born in London, UK. He endured the Blitz before being evacuated with his mother, Margaret MacDonald Shearer Harrowing, first to Dunblane, Scotland and then, joined by his brother Stewart, to Montreal in late 1940.

Survived by his wife and children along with eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, Colin’s strength and love met all challenges and provided quiet leadership to us.

He was a school teacher and principal in Chateauguay QC and High River AB. Colleagues referred to him as the ‘gentle giant’. He was a beekeeper, gardener, woodworker, and oil painter in Winfield AB, before retiring to Lethbridge where he volunteered at Nicholas Sheran Community School for several years. His passions were stained glass and turning wood on his lathe to make beautiful art that will be forever treasured by his family.

The final journey with cancer was borne with immense dignity and courage. He was a kind and loving man whose memory will be cherished always by his family.

HUMMEL

GLORIA JEAN HUMMEL (née Michaelis), beloved wife and soul mate of 58 years to Wally Hummel, of Milk River, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the age of 77 years.

Besides her husband, Baba, as she was affectionately called by her children & grandchildren, will be forever missed and fondly remembered with tremendous love by her son Danny, daughter Toni-Rae (Doug), son Guy (Rodica) and her six grandchildren: Kyle, Taylor and Jared Prusky, and James, Jessie and Adam Hummel, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her brother Terry (Anne) Michaelis and her sister Bonnie (Larry Dyck). She will be greatly missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws & her long time special coffee friends: Pat Russell, Bev McCoy & Rose Winters.

She was predeceased by her parents Joe & Doris Michaelis.

Gloria was born on July 18, 1941 in Lethbridge, Alberta. She grew up in Masinasin and moved to Milk River at the age of 12 where she met her childhood sweetheart, Wally. They were inseparable from the start. She, along with Wally, were at the top of their class, achieving numerous awards. Gloria was an avid sportsman. She excelled at basketball, softball, curling, skiing and golfing. She also achieved her life masters in duplicate bridge.

A highlight of her later years was driving the school bus which she did until age 70. She loved those kids.

She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends as a woman who loved her family, was a great story teller and loved to make people laugh. She enjoyed spending as much time as possible with the people she loved.

A Lutheran Funeral Service will be held at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 301 Main Street N.W., Milk River, AB, on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Jeremy Richert officiating.

Sharon Jensen
1939 – 2018
Sharon Brooks Jensen (nee Easthope), beloved wife of the late Gary Jensen, passed away peacefully in Taber after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the age of 78 years.

Sharon is survived by her son Kyle (Tiffani) Jensen of Salt Lake City, daughter Shari (Darwin) Roscoe of Red Deer; grandchildren Kristin, Shae and Joel; step grandchildren Kate and Cameron; granddaughter Kaylee; siblings Reg (Luella) Easthope, Bryan (Karen) Easthope; brother-in-law Robin Leigh; sister-in-law Sharon (Garth) Hughes; brother-in-law Norman Bullock; as well as numerous special uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and long time friends.

Sharon was born in Taber on November 30, 1939. She spent her school years in Taber and had many fond memories of fun times in high school with her siblings and lifelong friends. She often talked of sports teams, dances, teenage shenanigans and bands she played in.  Sharon married Gary Jensen in 1959 and they had many happy adventures together.  They lived in Conrad, Rimbey, Taber, Fort Nelson, back to Taber, Pincher Creek, Stavely, Lethbridge, then back to Taber again.
Sharon had a passion for music. She started playing the organ for church when she was fifteen years old and continued this pattern wherever she went for fifty years. At every gathering you would find Sharon at the piano with everyone around her singing, whistling, playing another instrument with her or just simply tapping their toes. She brought a joy to everyone she would meet with her music. Sharon and Gary spent many years playing in a dance band together, The Four Jacks.
Sharon loved to laugh and loved to make those around her laugh.  Her humour was infectious. Everyone gravitated to her because she brought pure joy to those around her. Sharon adored her grandkids, and she made sure everyone knew it! Her and Gary spent hours on the road travelling to see their little joys of sunshine. Sharon spoiled them rotten and they loved her dearly.  Until the day she died, even as young adults, they loved to cuddle their grandma on the couch.
Sharon had strong belief in the gospel and lived her life accordingly. She would drop anything to help a friend or relative in need. In her final days she looked forward to seeing her beloved Gary again and had no fear of passing.

LANDRY

Michael James Landry a resident of Lethbridge for the past 31 years, passed away August 20, 2018 at Columbia House – Age Care.

His body was cremated and his ashes shipped to Ottawa Ontario where his numerous family live; a memorial service was held there.

Michael will be missed by his numerous friends and especially his long time friend Desiray Fallon.

PALMER

KEITH MEEKS PALMER, devoted husband of Lynne Palmer, passed away Sept 1st, 2018, at the age of 87. He died peacefully with his family by his side, after complications from a fall.

Keith was born February 16th, 1931, to Edwin and LaRue Palmer, and raised in Cranford and later Taber, Alberta. Keith, and his identical twin brother Garth, were the oldest of seven children. Keith served a mission, in 1952, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Ottawa. He moved to Raymond and married his sweetheart, Lynne Galbraith, in 1959, and had seven children. Keith served in many callings in the church including Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Bishop of the Raymond 4th Ward and in recent years enjoyed serving in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Keith loved raising his children, crops and cattle on the farm that he loved with his wife that he cherished. He found joy spending time with his children and grandchildren, and treasuring his time with Lynne, sitting on the porch gazing out over the prairies.

Keith is survived by Lynne, his loving wife of 59 years, and his children, Sherri (Rod) Wendorff, Dwaine (Norie) Palmer, Craig (Carolyn) Palmer, Laurene (Jim) Moore, Shauna (Todd) Petty, and Hugh (Courtney) Palmer, 25 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren who each feel that they are his favorite. Keith is also survived by his siblings Jerry Palmer, Ella Mae Gardner, Jim Palmer and Sheila Hague.

Keith was predeceased by his infant son, Keith Galbraith Palmer, parents, Edwin and LaRue (Meeks) Palmer, his twin brother Garth Palmer and sister JoAnn Williams.

A Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, TAYLOR STREET CHAPEL, 221 North 400 West, Raymond, Alberta on Saturday September 8, 2018 at 11:00am.

Robert James Pich

Mr. Robert James Pich of Lethbridge, beloved partner of Helen Banville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the age of 78 years.

Robert was born in Sherridon, Manitoba on May 23, 1940 to Samuel and Helen Pich. He last worked at Time Air. Robert’s many hobbies included model airplanes, where he enjoyed building and flying them. Robert was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Windy West Flying Club.

Rose had a passion for playing the piano by ear for everyone’s enjoyment.

GRACE ANNIE WILLIAMS, beloved wife of the late Robert (Bob) Williams, of Lethbridge passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Health Centre on August 30th, 2018, at the age of 86 years.

Grace will be dearly missed by her 5 children: Bryon (Carla), Ron (Vera), Lori (Harold) Murray, Donna (Bryce) Schultz and David (Karen). She will lovingly be remembered by her 25 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Muriel Thomson of Victoria BC.

WOOD

JERI (MARY GERALDINE) WOOD, beloved wife of Jim Wood, passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on August 31, 2018 at the age of 85 years. Jeri was born September 16, 1932 in Raymond Alberta to Jack and Idale (Lund) Kenney.

Jeri will be dearly missed by her husband Jim, and her 2 children: Cheryl (Bob) Bullock and Kenney (Julie) Wood. She will be lovingly remembered by her 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Jeri spent most of her childhood in Raymond and made many lifelong friends there. After high school she attended the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah and resided in the Beehive House. She worked in Idaho Falls for a time and then moved back to Alberta where she worked in Raymond, Cardston and then Edmonton as a Telephone Operator. In 1959 she met Jim Wood on a blind date and married later that year on September 18, 1959 in the Cardston Alberta Temple.

One year later their daughter Cheryl Lynn was born and then 3 years later, James Kenney. They moved to Lethbridge in 1965 and lived in the same home for 53 years. Jeri worked at the Lethbridge Jr. College for over 25 years and really enjoyed working with the people there. She served faithfully in many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served with her husband Jim in the Cardston Temple for over 10 years.

She took great pleasure in knitting, cross stitching, chocolate making, shopping and was her grandchildren’s #1 sports fan, and if her grandchildren weren’t playing, you could still find her and Jim watching some game, somewhere.

“Gammy” as her grandchildren affectionately called her and as everyone else came to know her by, found her greatest joy being with, loving and supporting her family in all they did.

A Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, FORESTRY AVE CHAPEL, 4105 Forestry Ave S, Lethbridge, at 1:00pm Saturday, September 8, 2018.

Friends are welcome to meet with the family on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 7:00 to 8:00pm at SALMON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, 433 Stubb Ross Road South (entrance to the airport) or prior to the service from 12:00 to 12:45pm at the church.
