PATRICIA “PAT” ROBB (nee MARSHALL), passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at home.

During her lifetime she explored a wide variety of interests and activities. She attended LCI for Grade 10 and 12. Her Grade 11 year was spent in Switzerland. It was a magical year for her and she talked often about her experiences with her host family, learning to enjoy new foods, and of course, travel.

In her younger days, she was an avid tennis player, and travelled around Southern Alberta and BC participating in tournaments. During this time she attended the University of Alberta and Lethbridge College and became a Registered Nurse. For a short period of time she worked as an RN in Taber. Unfortunately the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis started to appear and cut short her nursing career.

Pat met Don on the weekend Mount St. Helen’s blew up (that is a whole other story) and the two were married in December of 1980. At this time, Pat decided to learn to play the flute. She studied and practiced diligently and very quickly became very good at it. Soon she joined the University of Lethbridge Wind Ensemble, and was asked to join the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra. In addition to these groups she was invited to play in the orchestras for several musical theatre productions (These were especially enjoyable for her). Throughout this time, she taught flute lessons and developed an excellent roster of students. She compiled a lot of her ideas and information about flute into a book of which she was very proud.

Pat had several excellent students which led her to form the Southwinds Flute Ensemble. This wonderful group did many superb performances.

In 1987, the Lethbridge Community Band was formed. She joined the fledgling band along with her father Maurie. Being able to play in the band with her dad gave her enormous joy. Pat continued to play with the LCB, and enjoyed being at rehearsal in the evening just before she passed away.

Throughout her adult life, Pat suffered with MS. Her primary symptom was trigeminal neuralgia – an excruciating pain that was extremely difficult to control. Throughout the 1980’s various surgical treatments were undertaken to control this pain. Some measure of control came from various medicines which she had to take continually. While medications did give her relief, they often sapped her energy.

Pat loved animals – especially cats. Anyone entering our home is immediately taken by the huge quantity and variety of cat knick-knacks, and cat related paraphernalia. Over the years, Pat owned and loved several cats. They were her babies.

When she was not spoiling our cats, she was very dedicated in helping care for both her father and mother in the later years of their lives. Many hours were devoted to making sure that they had everything they needed.

Traveling was not something that suited Pat. She did, however, love going to her favourite place in the world, Rosen Lake, BC. The Marshall family cabin held cherished memories for her. Each summer, time at the lake was the highest priority. It was her own slice of heaven. Plans to go there again next summer were already solidified and she could hardly wait until that time would come.

A Celebration of Pat’s Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB. on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Canon James Robinson officiating.

A Private Family Interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery prior to the celebration of life.
