Anna Jahn

1922 – 2018

We lovingly remember our family matriarch, Anna Jahn, who passed away November 27, 2018 at the age of 96 in Lethbridge, Alberta. Anna, the eldest of 10, was born on February 22, 1922 in Josefstal, Ukriane to Daniel and Katherina Geworsky. In 1940, she met and married William Neuberger, also of Josepstal, and gave birth to a daughter, Lydia, in 1942. War forced the family to flee to Poland and on to Germany where her husband was drafted in 1944 and was subsequently lost in action in 1945. After the war in Germany, Anna met and married Karl Jahn. Karl and Anna had two children, Peter in 1947 and Lisa in 1948. A third child, Irene was born in 1954 after the family immigrated to Canada for greater opportunity. Their first years were hard, but Anna believed the Lord was with them and guided them so that no one was lost from the road of life. Anna always gave thanks for their blessings. As a long-time resident of Coaldale prior to her residence in Lethbridge as her health declined, Anna was a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was active in its groups for as long as her health allowed her to make that regular attendance. In her latter years, she attended various services at the lodges, maintaining her communicant membership with Redeemer Lutheran and always having daily devotions in her room. Throughout her life Anna was very keen in her gardening and received many ribbons, which she proudly displayed in her room. She was always happy to receive a visit or a phone call from her children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. Visits from the small children brought a happy smile to her face. Anna was a homemaker, and always shared whatever she had to give – so if you got some baking or pickles count yourself as special in her heart. Anna and Karl enjoyed entertaining and hosting and did so for many local and foreign visitors. They had fond memories of their first overseas trip to Hawaii, and Anna made the journey back to Germany many times throughout her life to visit family. She loved her vacations to Radium Hot Springs, many times inviting friends and family to join them, a tradition the family enjoys to this day. Anna was pre-deceased by her husband, Karl in 1988 and daughter Lydia in 2012; her father, Daniel in 1980 and mother Kathrine in 1989; a brother Johann in childhood; brother, Wilhelm lost in action in 1943; brother Erwin in 1997 and sister-in-law, Marilyn in 1988; brother Emil in 2012; sister Louise in 2014, sister-in-law Marie in 2018; brother-in-law Erwin in 2009; and 2 grandchildren in infancy. She is survived by 3 children, Peter Jahn; Lisa (Marvin) Mack; Irene (Craig) Ryckman and sons-in-law Sam Wagner and Frank Riha; daughter-in-law Karen Hanna; 12 Grandchildren Andrew (Colleen) Wagner; Mark (Tina) Wagner; Robert Wagner; Leslie (Darcy) Tolnai; Kirk (Lyanne) Riha; Joe (Carolyn) Riha; Kristy (Robb) Jahn-Smith; Michael Jahn; Erika (Jennifer) Scott; Chad (Lindsay) Ryckman; Brad Ryckman and Derek (Hailey) Ryckman; siblings Daniel (Ellie) Geworsky; Johann Geworsky; Fred (Sylvia) Geworsky; Lydia Guse; sister in law Olga Geworsky and Susan Geworsky; 18 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; along with a long list of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many, many cousins. What a legacy has been left to live on and remember her. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 STREET SOUTH, Lethbridge, AB. Interment to follow at the Coaldale Cemetery.

MACCUMBER

FRANCES ELIZABETH MACCUMBER passed away peacefully at the Milk River Health Centre, on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the age of 87 years.

Frances will be lovingly remembered by her sons Michael (Laura), Scott (Kelly), Roger (Cindy), eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and sister Florence Middlemiss.

She was predeceased by her husband Walter “Mac” of 42 years, parents Wallace and Sarah Middlemiss, daughters Linda and Sara, sisters Effie and Eleanor and brothers Edgar, Robert and Earl.

Frances was born August 12, 1931 in Rockburn, Quebec. She served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from December 1953 to December 1956. During this time, she met Mac while he was serving with the Canadian Army. They lived in various places in Quebec and Ontario until Mac retired in 1970 and the family moved to Huntingdon, Quebec. Frances then began working for CIBC, where she worked for 20 years. In 1990, Mac, Frances and Sara moved from Huntingdon to Milk River, Alberta.

Frances enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards, puzzles, knitting, crosswords and reading. In her younger years, she loved to bowl and play softball, hockey and basketball.

She will be remembered for her kind, gentle nature and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Frances’ family would like to thank Dr. Krog, the staff of the Milk River Health Centre and Prairie Rose Lodge for their wonderful care.

A Graveside Service will take place at a later date.

MITCHELL

Harry MacFarlane Mitchell of Lethbridge, Alberta passed away at the age of 88 at the Chinook Regional Hospital on November 28th after a brief illness.

Harry was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on May 20th, 1930. He was the youngest son of Robert and Ida Mitchell.

Harry was predeceased by his parents, brothers; Robert, Ben, Jim and sister Tanny (Passmore) and in 2006 by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Marjorie (Hiscott).

A quiet, gentle cowboy, Harry is survived by his daughter, Toni-Leigh Mueller (Larry) and his son, Willis Ross (Wendy), three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Harry graduated from The Olds College and became a respected cattle buyer in the Lethbridge and Calgary area. Always a cowboy, he was the youngest son in the Mitchell Ranching Company.

Harry was an avid sports fan and a long time Minor Hockey Coach in Lethbridge. Dad was always up for an evening of reminiscing and storytelling with good friends and family.

As to Harry’s wishes there will be no funeral service.

PALMER

Jean Mary Palmer (nee Locatelli), beloved wife of the late Dr. Clifford A. Palmer passed away peacefully on November 30, 2018 at the Chinook Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Jean is survived by her loving daughters, Dianne of Lethbridge, and Donna of Kelowna, B.C. Jean was a devoted grandmother to grandsons, Samuel Palmer of Edmonton and Maxfield Palmer of Vancouver. She is predeceased by her parents, sister Antoinette (Nettie Fabbi), and brothers Carl and Pio Locatelli.

Jean was born in Taber, Alberta and spent her young life in Coalhurst, Alberta. She entered the Galt School of Nursing program in Lethbridge and graduated with her RN in 1944. Many of the doctors and nurses who cared for Jean on 5A and 4B, visited the atrium at the Chinook Regional hospital to see her graduating class photo, class of 1944 (J. Locatelli).

Jean, then met and married the man of her dreams, a local optometrist, Dr. Clifford Palmer and they made beautiful music together for 56 years. Cliff passed away March 26, 2002.

Jean’s later years were spent at the “View” in Lethbridge where she enjoyed her new and old friends, the wonderful staff, and many activities! Jean was well known there by her fellow residents, staff and caregivers for her laughter, her kindness and her witty charm!

Special thanks to Jean’s family doctor, Dr. Tupper. Also special thanks to the wonderful doctors who cared for her in hospital – Dr. Malpica, Dr. Oviatt, and Dr. Latchmea. Also thanks to all the nurses on 4B for the exceptional care and kindness that you showed Jean during her final days.

Many thanks also to those at the “View” who helped make her “golden years” so special. We are grateful to Russ, Urszula, Richard, Denise, Wilco, Linda, Wendy, Sri, Briana, Arlene and so many other wonderful staff members. Also special thanks to her devoted caregivers – Kathy, Colleen, Jen, Louise, Amy, to only name a few. Special mention to her many friends at the “View” – Henrietta, Ruth, Betty Jean, Glenda, Mary Ellen, John and Marilyn, Tony, Irene, Ron and his family and so many others who were very important to her. PRINCE

TERRY ELAINE PRINCE, beloved wife of Brian Prince passed away December 1, 2018 in Lethbridge, AB at the age of 69 years. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, her children, Ryan, Bryson (Chelsea), Michelle (Tyler Clark), Brad (Lindsey), seven grandchildren, and sister Linda (Bill Lang). She is predeceased by her parents Robert & Madeline Bramwell and brother Bob (Georgia) Bramwell. Terry was a friend to everyone, and she brought warmth and love to all who knew her. The world was a more beautiful place with her in it. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1510 STAFFORD DRIVE NORTH, Lethbridge, AB, with an Open House for family and friends from 3:00-4:00 PM at the Raymond & District Seniors Club, 55E 100N, Raymond, AB.

Dr. Pete Standing Alone, passed away peacefully surrounded family on November 27, 2018 at the age of 90 years at the Kainai Continuing Care Centre. A Wake Service will be held between 7:00 P.M. and 11:00 P.M. on Friday December 7, 2018 at Kainai High School.
