Augustinus “Gus” Brouwers

1930 – 2019

Augustinus Brouwers of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Maria Brouwers passed away peacefully on March 17, 2019 at the age of 89.

Augustinus better known as “Gus” was born February 9, 1930 in The Hauge, Netherlands to Florentinus and Maria Brouwers. Gus was educated in Holland and at the age of 19, joined the army and fought in Indonesia. In May 1952, Gus emigrated to Canada and worked for the PFRA in Vauxhall. Maria Meijer joined Gus in December and they were married in Taber. Gus continued to work for the PFRA in Alberta and Saskatchewan, before retiring in 1987 to Lethbridge. Retirement never slowed Gus down, and he could often be found tinkering with his model trains, making wine, or lending a hand to family, friends and neighbors. Gus or also known to many as “Opa” loved his family and spent tireless hours woodworking and building things for others until he was no longer able. Opa will be greatly missed by his family, friends and everyone that ever had the pleasure of sharing a story with him.

Besides his loving wife Maria for the past 66 years, Gus is survived by his 3 sons, Dennis (Norma), Rick (Carol) and Anthony (Deborah); grandchildren, Daryl (Lindsey) Brouwers, Kelly (Brad) Sawka, Miranda (Jason) Brouwers, Jason Brouwers, Jenny Brouwers, Brett Schneider and great grandchildren, Ryder & Tess Brouwers, Quinn Sawka.

Gus was predeceased by his parents Florentinus and Maria Brouwers; brothers Wilhelm, Hank, Max, Peter and sisters, Joann and Marie.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM, on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at ST. MARTHA’S PARISH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 355 Columbia Blvd West, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Father William Monis, celebrant.

ILLINGWORTH

JOHN LORNE ILLINGWORTH, beloved husband of Shirley Illingworth, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

Besides John’s beloved wife for the last 60 years, he is lovingly survived by his four sons Blaine (Mark Randall) Illingworth, Dale (Lorna) Illingworth, Gary (Sue) Illingworth and Colin (Cherie Birch) Illingworth, Grandchildren: Jason (Darcie), Chris, Keith, Spencer and Travis, and one great-grand daughter Ruby. John is also survived by his sister Carol (Bill) Corbett.

At John’s request, no formal Funeral Service will be held. Instead a casual come-and-go Memorial Reception will take place at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath, Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta, on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M.

NALDER

On Monday morning, March 11, 2019 RUTH BINGHAM NALDER passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Prairie Ridge.

Ruth is survived by William W. Nalder, their six children; Bruce (Barbara) Nalder, Sandy (Barry) Genta, Stuart Nalder, Byron (Deanne) Nalder, Carolyn (Gary) Smith, Shauna (Rock) Smith; and their 23 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren; her sister Elaine (Burns) Sabey; her sister-in-law Barbara (Dick) Lindburg; her brother-in-law Alan Nalder.

She was predeceased by her parents Francis and Leona Bingham; her sisters, Mary (Glen) Gurney, Leona Jean Bingham, Mildred (Roy) Peterson, Grace (John) Peterson; her brothers Marion, Orson (Rojanea), Francis, and Melvin Bingham and her granddaughter Laureen Ruth Smith.

Ruth was born January 31, 1926 in Magrath, Alberta. She was the 8th child of 10 children. Ruth had fond memories of growing up in Magrath. Her early life was filled with love, devotion to the gospel, family, farming and friends. Her circle of friends was lifelong.

At nine years of age Ruth experienced the loss of her mother, who passed away suddenly from pneumonia. Ruth’s father and her siblings supported her throughout her life and exemplified lives devoted to their family and to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ruth married William Wilcox Nalder on February 27, 1946 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They moved to Raymond, Alberta where they have loved, lived and raised their six children.

Ruth’s life has been blessed by her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She devoted her life to her family, her church callings and serving in the community. Her children and grandchildren brought great joy into her life and she modeled for them how to live a full and satisfying life.

Her love for the arts was reflected in her teaching speech at home and at the Lethbridge Community College. Her community involvement included being on the Hospital Board, Farm Safety Board and the highlight of her community service was serving as Raymond’s first female mayor for three consecutive terms. She loved the Town of Raymond and wanted to do all she could to improve and beautify its surroundings.

No tribute could be more eloquent than the overwhelming love and respect which we, as a family, have for our mother.

We are grateful for the exceptional care Mom has received from the staff at the Good Samaritan Prairie Ridge.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, RAYMOND STAKE CENTER (2 North, 200 West) Raymond, AB. with President Lanny Howard officiating. Friends may meet the family prior to the service at the Church from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Interment to follow in the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond.

W.H. (Bill) BEEBER

1932-2019

W.H. (Bill) Beeber, 87, of Calgary died unexpectedly Friday, March 8 in Strathmore hospital after a brief illness.

He is survived by sons Allan (Liz) of Lethbridge, Grant (Theresa) of Wainwright, grandchildren Dylan, Jennifer and Stephen, several great-grandchildren and his best friends Mel and Hilda Ray of Strathmore. He was predeceased by second wife Josephine in 2018.

Bill was born Jan. 26, 1932 in Bassano, Alberta to Harry, the CPR station manager, and Molly, a nurse. He was the only son and youngest of five children, three of whom Molly raised as her own after the death of Harry’s first wife Amy Newell in 1921.

Bill started work with Transalta Utilities, then known as Calgary Power, in the early 1950s, working in various commmunities including Pincher Creek, Warner, Westlock, Cardston, Raymond (where he was district manager), Lethbridge and Calgary before retiring at the Westaskiwin meter shop in the late 1980s.

Bill was an avid woodworker who crafted his own versions of the Norwegian violin and a talented musician who especially enjoyed playing banjo. Shortly before his passing, Bill had started taking Spanish lessons and was planning to buy a new inflatable boat so he could continue pursuing his other passion of fishing.

After Joey died, Bill fulfilled a bucket list dream last August of fishing for walleye on Rainy Lake, Ontario where Allan started his newspaper career. Until the end, he gleefully told stories, even to hospital staff, of accidentally bear-spraying himself in their cabin.

At his request, there will be no service.

Lloyd Ross Wahlund

1949 – 2019

It is with a broken hearts that we announce the passing of Lloyd Wahlund after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer at Raymond Hospital on Monday March 18, 2019 at the age of 70 years.

Lloyd was born and raised in Moose Jaw SK and lived on the family farm. He worked for a number of places from service man at Great West Tire in Moose Jaw Sk., to school bus driver with both catholic and public schools for 12 years in Regina Sk. Lloyd moved to Lethbridge with his wife and daughter in 2010 and was enjoying his retirement. He loved to travel, go camping and spend time with his dogs Tammy and Buddy.

Lloyd leaves behind his beloved wife Shirlie; daughter Melissa (Dene) of Lethbridge; his mother Viola of Lethbridge; his sister Fay (Per) Jacobson of Saskatoon SK; brother Les (Anne) of Prince George BC; sisters in law Joyce (Bert) Kostuik, Marilyn (Manuel) Ackerman, Phyllis (Charlie) Smallwood all of Regina SK; brother in law Harold (Sandy) Dean of Bella Coola BC; his long- time friend Dave (Donna) of Moose Jaw SK, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Fritz in 1991; Father in law Russel Dean in 1994; and mother in law Miros in 1968.

Shirlie and Melissa would like to thank Doctor Marc Ascione and the staff at Raymond Hospital for taking such special care of Lloyd at this most difficult time, and also the staff at the Jack Ady Cancer Clinic.

A Celebration of Lloyd’s Life will be held from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the family home, 238 HERITAGE COURT WEST, Lethbridge, Alberta.

Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200. 2424 4th Street S.W, Calgary, Alberta, or your local Humane Society in Lloyds name.

WAUGH

Marian Ada Waugh (Forde), beloved wife of the late Gordon H. Waugh, passed away at Raymond, AB on Tuesday March 12, 2019 at the age of 93 years Marian is a loving mother to daughter Nancy (David) McCance of Claresholm; In her words, “she loved her beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren”, Rebecca Ann (Randal) Cooper: Emily, Carson, Addie & Alivia; Benjamin David (Meagan): Hailey, Paige, Cait and Nora; Christopher Gordon (Lauren): Jaxson, Millie, Lexie & Asher; Ashley (Caleb) McGale: Breelyn, Ryker and 1month old Grady; she is also survived by Gordon’s sister Gwyneth Lees and sister-in-law Elizabeth Forde (Athol) of Ontario. She was predeceased by her parents: Thomas Murray Forde and Marian Ada Ann Forde (Pammenter); sister, Lillian Stearns; brothers: Cyril (Sadie), Ronald (Myrtle), Douglas, and Thomas Athol Forde; Gordon’s sister, Kay (Art) Rowden. Marian was born in Highland Creek, Ontario, in the family home, the youngest of 6 children. Her father passed away suddenly when she was only 8 years old. In 1947 she married her childhood sweetheart, Gordon Henry Waugh who was a police sergeant in Toronto for 35 years. They built their own home in Highland Creek together. They adopted their only daughter, Nancy, at 5 months old in 1959. They loved to travel, Canada’s east and west coasts, Florida, Mexico, Salt Lake City, Banff, Jasper and California were just a few of their many road trips. They also loved camping, especially in Algonquin Park, ON. Marian worked for years at Hackney Drug Store in Highland Creek and later at the CIBC bank in downtown Toronto. They moved to Raymond, AB in 1980 when Gord retired from the police force. She kept in touch with her family in Ontario and they grew to love their new prairie and mountain home, especially “Old Chief” and Waterton Park. She was an excellent cook, grew a garden and preserved its bounty. She was a giving and active person volunteering in many roles in the community. She was an impeccable housekeeper and took great pride in her home and yard. Marian was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in every organization of the church and enjoyed doing genealogical research. She also loved wild birds and animals, especially her cat, Fluffy, her companion for the past few years. She lost her husband of 66 years five years ago and most of her sight to macular degeneration. In spite of numerous health challenges, she determined to remain in her home, which she did until 5 weeks before her death, evidence of her strength and will to the end.

Friends may meet with the family on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 10:00 to 10:45 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, RAYMOND STAKE CENTRE, the Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will follow the service in the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CNIB.
