Peter Dueck
1928 – 2019
It is with thankfulness to God that we say goodbye to our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Peter, who passed away at Cedar Creek Adaptacare on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at the age of 91 years.
Peter is survived by his children Doug (Erna) Dueck, Brenda (Tom) Metcalfe, Del (Betty) Dueck, Bonnie (Arnie Bartel) Dueck; grandchildren Jenn (Irv) Dick, Jo (Derrick) Laychuk, Travis (Melissa) Dueck, Jamie (Cam) French, Rob Metcalfe, Lana (Jay) Morton, Cory (Melissa Collin) Dueck, Taylor Bartel, Steven (Chelsea Kane) Bartel; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Jack (Debra) Dueck; sister Susie Unger and sister-in-law Mary Dueck.
Peter was predeceased by his parents; siblings Margaret, Anne, Agnes, Henry and Baby Mary.
Peter was born in Coaldale, where he grew up on the Dueck family farm until he married and successfully built several farms with his wife Mary, his “Rose”, and their children, in the Coaldale area. He and Mary retired to Lethbridge in the early 90’s, while still maintaining some farmland and his beloved quonset and yard.
Peter lived his faith steadfastly day by day and will be also remembered for his love and meticulous efforts in farming, in growing with farming technology and always having the cleanest crops, the tidiest yard and the most up-to-date machinery and methods. We respected the importance he placed on education, himself being not only an excellent farmer, but also an accomplished pilot and mechanic.
We remember him engaging with his grandchildren, whether it be building go-carts, playing pool in the basement, driving lessons or sharing history.
Finally, we remember his generosity. Dad had intuition about his children’s personal needs and was very generous during those times.
We are very grateful to the kind and gentle care provided by the staff at Cedar Creek Adaptacare.
A Private Family Graveside will be held in the near future, and a Celebration of Peter’s Life will be held at a later date.
