A pair of local football players are headed to the Pacific Challenge.
After a lengthy selection process, the duo of LCI Rams running back
Spencer Stanko and Cardston Cougar linebacker Hunter Bultsma have
cracked the roster for Team Alberta U17, which will suit up for the
Pacific Challenge in August in Hawaii.
The players were a part of the selection for Team Alberta U18 that
will represent Alberta this summer at the Football Canada Cup.
Roughly 400 players started the process in January and 80 players were
selected out of last weekend’s camp in Calgary for either the U18 or
U17 team.
The U17 team is a development squad of those players who were close to
making this year’s U18 team.
Consisting of 2003-born players, that means Stanko and Bultsma will
get another shot at the U18 team next year.
Team Alberta U17 will scrimmage against Team Saskatchewan U17 in Red
Deer June 16.
Afterwards they’ll gather Aug. 4-12 for the Pacific Challenge which
will feature three scrimmages vs. local high schools on the island of
Maui.
