1934 – Gerry Fleming – 2019

Gerald William (Gerry) Fleming passed away peacefully on April 12, 2019 at the Bow Island Health Centre, at the age of 85 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Mary of 63 years; his sons, Kim, Barry (Connie), David (Esther); grandchildren, Denver, Matthew, Tyler; his great grandchildren, Noah, and Cara; his brother, John (Doris). Gerry was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Marjorie.

Gerry was born on February 25, 1934 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. Both he and Mary were raised and schooled, and then married in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. While in Maple Creek, they raised purebred cattle and were involved in the community. In 1959, they moved to Lethbridge to work with his parents who operated Christensen Fleming Funeral Home. While operating the funeral home, he was involved in the Southminister United Church, AOTS Men’s Club, and Kinsmen. In 1967, wanting to raise the children in the country, they made the decision to buy a farm in Bow Island, their Centennial Project. They established a feedlot and grew silage, as well as specialty crops of corn and beans. He was involved in the formation of the Bow Island Livestock Auction Coop in 1974 and was responsible for having Bow Island’s first 4H Beef achievement day and sale in 1975, and the formation of the Forty Mile Feeders Association. Gerry was an active member of the Pulse Growers, Bow Island Corn Marketing and Gas Coop. In 1998, they moved to Rainier, AB, to farm with Kim and Barry. In June 2006, they retired back to Bow Island.

Gerry will always be remembered for his kindness—helping others whenever needed.

Cremation will be followed by a private family time of remembrance.

Mary Credico

1924 – 2019

Mary Credico (nee Lastuka) of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Jack Credico, passed away peacefully at Edith Cavell Nursing Home surrounded by family at the age of 94 years.

Mary was born in Hardieville and spent most of her childhood in Coaldale, graduating from R I Baker High school. After a short time in Wrentham, she moved to Lethbridge with her sister Vicky and worked at the Galt Hospital.

Mom met Dad before he left for the war when her best friend introduced Mom to her boyfriend who then decided our Mom was a better choice. They continued to write during the war and when dad was on leave, they were married on July 25, 1945.

After the war, they began their married life working in Grandpa’s bakery, Canadian Union Bakery at 4 Ave and 13 St North, and started building their home where they lived their entire lives.

Baking and cooking were some of Mom’s specialties, along with her vegetable and flower gardens. She was involved in St Basil’s Home and School and was a proud original member of St Basil’s CWL for over 60 years, holding positions of Treasurer and group leader.

After Dad’s passing over 30 years ago, Mom enjoyed her time and travels with the Lethbridge Seniors Citizens Organization (LSCO) and functions at the Romulus and Remus Italian Canadian Club. Mom was a friend to all animals especially her pets and the pets of her children. She particularly liked penguins; learning about them, collecting and naming them. And on her 90th birthday she spent an enjoyable afternoon with her daughters and granddaughter visiting the penguins at the Calgary Zoo.

Mary is survived by her daughter Carliss Glover of Edmonton; son Rick (Grace) of Lethbridge; daughter Connie (John Dragani) of Vancouver; son Randall (Tam Pham) of Vancouver; sister Victoria of Lethbridge; brother George (Lois) Lastuka of Lethbridge; grandchildren Brenna, Peter, David and Michael and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her loving husband Jack, Mary was predeceased by her parents; son-in-law Glen Glover; sisters and brothers- in- law Rose (Ken) Barnett; Ann (Bax) Jones and John M Credico.

Rest in peace Mom, you’ve earned it. Dad is waiting for you.

A Vigil Rites (Prayer Service) will be held at 7:00pm on Tuesday, April 16. 2019 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30pm on Wednesday April 17, 2019 at ST. BASILS ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 – 13 Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Father Kevin Tumback, celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.

1932 – 2019

KANASHIRO

Our family sadly announces the passing of our Mother Minako Kanashiro on Sunday, April 14th 2019.

Mom was born in New Westminster, BC to Kazuyoshi and Kikuye Hirotsu in 1932 and she married Jim Kanashiro in November 1952. Mom was employed at the Fashion Shop and later worked for the PFRA before opening Kelly’s, her Japanese goods store in North Lethbridge in 1974.

Like many people of her generation, Mom had experienced difficult hardships in her youth but never complained. Mom’s life was dedicated to her family and her home was always our focal point for family gatherings where you could count on a fabulous dinner and homemade dessert. Mom was a consummate cook and a prolific cookie baker. As well, Mom was a doting great grandmother and spent a lot of time with all her great grandchildren, often times “spoiling” them.

Another passion of Mom’s was the casino. Mom took many trips with her children and grandchildren to Vegas and she always looked forward to her weekly casino and lunch outings with her dear friend and neighbor, Doreen Gyorkos.

Mom was also a prolific knitter and her extended family have many keepsakes to remember her.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Jim, daughter Gwen and brother Tak as well as many brother and sister in laws. Leaving to mourn her passing are her children, Kevin, Kelly (Stephanie), Sherry (Keith), Lisa (Dominic) and Carla, sisters Yuki (Dick), Leslie, brother Rick; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, brother and sister in laws.

Mom was selfless, she always put the needs and interests of others first and she will be deeply missed leaving a vast void in our lives, more than we can express.

A celebration of Life will be held at the Lethbridge Signature Sandman (The Lodge) on Tuesday, April 23rd 2019, at 2pm. Parking is available at the rear of the hotel.
