Aileen Cecilia Patton

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Aileen Cecilia Patton (nee Pearson) on the bright & beautiful autumn day of September 4th, 2019, peacefully and surrounded by her family who loved her deeply. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, William Wallace; her two children, William Russell (Carolyn) & Joanne (Brent); and four grandchildren whom she loved and was incredibly proud of – Dane, Braunagh, Amelia & Isabella. She was predeceased by her parents August & Ida Persson, sister Esther, and brother Bertil. She is survived by her brothers Donald & John, and sisters-in-law Dorothy & Barbara. Mum was the daughter of Swedish immigrants, and was intensely proud and devoted to them. She leaves many in both Canada & Sweden to mourn her loss. She was born in Lethbridge on July 2nd, 1937 and grew up on her parents’ farm near Park Lake. She always enjoyed helping her mother & father on the farm, and knew how to operate a tractor before she could drive a car (and while her friends were working on their tans at the beach, Mum would get even a better tan driving the tractor in a bikini and sun hat). Life on the farm was idyllic, she enjoyed her horses & dogs, and grew-up in a very happy and warm home. Aileen was a gifted student and graduated Valedictorian from Coalhurst High School. She was also an exceptional athlete, and played basketball and baseball throughout Lethbridge County. Aileen’s sights were set on nursing at an early age, and she graduated from the Galt School of Nursing in 1959 with Distinction. Aileen’s thirty-year nursing career took her from Public Health in Fort Macleod, to the Emergency Department of the Lethbridge Municipal Hospital, the Case Rooms at the Banff Mineral Springs & Calgary Grace Hospitals, the Emergency Department of the Misericordia Hospital, and finally as Nursing Supervisor of the Misericordia Hospital. She always made calm from chaos, was always focused on the holistic needs of her patients, and especially loved caring for children and newborns. It was in the Emergency Department of the Lethbridge Municipal Hospital where she met a tall, handsome Irish RCMP constable who had brought in an injured prisoner for care. Dad took one look at the equally tall, athletic, blue-eyed and auburn-haired Swedish beauty in her white-cap and pressed uniform, and immediately fell in love with her (we never knew what happened to the patient). Dad was welcomed into the family immediately, was always considered a son by her parents, and Bill & Aileen were soon married. Mum followed Dad’s career with the RCMP across Alberta, and they enjoyed postings in Lethbridge, Banff, Calgary, Peace River & Edmonton. Mum created an equally very happy and warm home for her own family, and always loved & supported us. In retirement, Aileen enjoyed her garden, travel with her husband across Canada, baseball (she was always a LA Dodgers fan), her neat & tidy home, her incredible Swedish baking, and most of all, her family that was equally devoted to her and loved her beyond description. We are certain she is now in the arms of the Lord, and has joined her parents and siblings around the kitchen table back at the farm, letting them know of her recent adventures, and sharing in warm laughter with her dog Nettie at her knee. Our family wishes to thank the City of Edmonton Fire Rescue Service; AHS Emergency Medical Services; the staff at the Emergency Department of the Royal Alexandra Hospital for their care and professionalism; and especially, Drs. Ricco & Pretty, and Nurse Lisa for the dignity and compassion they showed Mum. Funeral Services will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 10037-84 Avenue, Edmonton, on Wednesday September 11th at 1:00PM. Reindert “Rein” Bakker

1931 – 2019

It is with great sorrow, but in the Lord’s time, we announce the passing of our father Reindert “Rein” Bakker, beloved husband of the late Jacomina Bakker, at the age of 88 years. Rein is survived by his daughters Gretha (Dirk) Bakker-Bakker and Rita van den Berg; sons Gerrit (Wendy) Bakker, Evert Bakker and Henry (Arlene) Bakker; 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Besides his loving wife Jacomina Bakker, Rein is predeceased by his parents Gerrit and Maria Bakker. He is also survived by family in The Netherlands. BEISWANGER

LLOYD T. BEISWANGER, of Picture Butte, beloved husband of Elizabeth “Nell” Beiswanger, peacefully went to heaven on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the age of 78 years.

Besides his loving wife Elizabeth, Lloyd is survived by his sons Gary, Bobby (Jan), and Tim (Heidi) as well as six grandchildren Breanna, Zane (Andrea), Benjamin, Jonathan, Savannah, Nicholas, and three great-grandchildren Leo, Lily, and Rowan all whom he deeply cherished. He is also survived by his sisters Caroline and Eada (Doug) as well as other extended family.

Lloyd was born in Coaldale on Oct. 17, 1940 to the late John Henry and Adella Beiswanger. His father John Henry was an original homesteader in Picture Butte, established in 1905. Lloyd moved from Picture Butte to Portland, Oregon at age three with his mother and sister after his father’s death.

Lloyd joined the military and served a tour in the US Army as a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division stationed at Fort Campbell Kentucky. He met Elizabeth in Nashville, Tennessee and they married on June 4, 1961. Lloyd and Elizabeth moved to Portland Oregon where they started their life together.

Lloyd made a career by means of his talent as a skilled carpenter and General Contractor. After his retirement as a General Contractor, Lloyd and Elizabeth moved back home to Picture Butte. In retirement, he loved traveling with Elizabeth in their RV and adored his Pomeranians Molly and Maggie.

The Family would like to thank the staff of Alberta Health Services Home Care, Jack Ady Cancer Centre and St. Michael’s Health Centre for their care and compassion.

A Visitation will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 12:00 Noon, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 1:00 P.M.

RICHARD BRAZZONI

(1949-2019)

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Richard Brazzoni of Bellevue, Alberta on August 28th, 2019 at the age of 69.

Richard was born to Joe and Louise Brazzoni on November 28, 1949 here in the Crowsnest Pass, Alberta. He inherited a solid work ethic while helping his parents run Brazzoni Sundries in Bellevue and went on to become a journeyman electrician, a building operator and a boilermaker for Alberta Health Services. He will be desperately missed by all that knew him and even more so by those who never got the chance to meet him.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Marion Gibos; his son, Gregory (Christa) Gibos of Lethbridge and daughter, Kelsy Gibos (Travis Johnson) of Hinton; two grandkids arriving in the winter of 2019; and four grand-dogs Geno, Baxter, Twigs and Huckleberry.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, aunts and uncles and a number of cousins.

A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers donations on his behalf will be accepted by the Lethbridge College Men’s Volleyball (www.gokodiaks.ca) and the Animal Cancer Therapy Subsidization Society of Alberta (www.actssalberta.ca).

Sharon Margaret Denecky

1945 – 2019

Mrs. Sharon Margaret Denecky of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Mr. Nick Denecky, passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at the age of 74 years. Sharon was born March 22, 1945 to Carl Albin Soderstrom and Madeleine Madge (Roan) Soderstrom. She was the 5th of 6 children. Sharon’s life was lived in Lethbridge and the surrounding areas. Sharon married Nick Denecky in 1971. Together they worked on the Denecky Farms in several Southern Alberta locations. She was a cancer survivor for the past 23 years. Complications from those treatments caused her illness at this time. Sharon was a kind and loving person and will be sadly missed. She was predeceased by her parents, and her brother, Gary. Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Nick, sons Ken and Doug (Theresa), daughter Roxanne, grandchildren Crystal, Alex, Nicholas, and Nathan. Also left are her sisters Dell Donovan and Christina Brooks and her brothers Allan and Ken Soderstrom, as well as many nieces, nephews and relatives. ALICE MARIE FERGUSON, passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit, on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the age of 83 years.

Hazel Fong

Our beloved mother, Hazel Fong, of Calgary, passed away unexpectedly on September 4th, 2019. Full of energy, Hazel continued even at her age to defeat all comers at badminton, crossword puzzles and jenga. Our mother was born to Sun and Bow Sim Chuen in Bow Island, Alberta where her grandfather, Chuck Chuen, was a pioneer. He had established a general store at the turn of the 20th century which remained in business for 80 years. Mom moved to Taber after marrying John Fong in 1950. As a woman ahead of her time, she juggled motherhood and working at the family supermarket with style. After Dad passed away in 1990, mom re-located to Calgary to be closer to her children. We will miss her adventurous spirit and her profound love for her family. She took a keen interest in her grandchildren and great-grandchild and eagerly attended their sports activities, music and theatrical performances. Mom was known for her active mind and quick sense of humor and was also an accomplished artist. She is survived by her daughters Linda Jade Fong (Binx Selby) of Arizona, Shari Boisvert (Dennis) of Edson, and sons James (Dr. Linda Diane), David (Anwen), and Chris (Janelle), all of Calgary, and grandchildren Linx; Jasmine and Jordan; Stephen (Wendy and great-grandson Jamie), Matthew (Mel), Daniel (Nadia); Jonathan, Megan (Owen), and Catherine; Kaitlin, Connor, and Cole. She is also survived by her sister Violet Fong, of Lethbridge, and brother Norman Chuen, of Medicine Hat, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Helen, Mary, George, Harry, and Irene Chuen. Leskosek, Janice Rae

(nee Wright)

August 28, 1948 – August 28, 2019

Our dear Janice, much loved wife, mother, sister and aunt died suddenly on August 28th. Janice was born to Harvey and Elizabeth Wright and grew up in Milk River, AB. After high school she moved to Calgary to complete her ARCT in piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music and her B. Ed with the University of Calgary. Janice taught piano, kindergarten and elementary school in Calgary and later in the Lethbridge area. In 1977 she married Robert (Bob) Leskosek, residing in Lethbridge where their three sons were born. For the past 28 years Janice and Bob resided in BC with her focus on their family. Although Janice struggled with MS and decreased mobility, Bob and her boys took good care of her. She drew strength through prayer and her trust in the Lord. Janice will be greatly missed – we will remember her for her unconditional love, serene wisdom and above all, her prayers.

She is survived by her husband Bob, sons Rob, James and Aaron; her sisters Joan (Edward) Lee, and Renee (Rodney) Haraga; her nephews and niece, Jason Lee (Frank), Tai Lee (Gregg), James Greenwood-Lee (Anna and their children Ava and Fin), and numerous cousins.

Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration will take place at a later date.

RITCHIE

Allan Keen Ritchie, beloved husband of the late LaRue (Jensen) Ritchie, and son of the late Charles and Ellen (Nellie) Ritchie, passed away on September 4, 2019 at the age of 91 years. Left to mourn Allan’s passing are his children Allan (Beth) Ritchie, Debra (Wendell) Campbell, Barbara (Gary) King, Patricia (Jim) Poriz, Gary (Nicole) Ritchie, 15 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. Allan was born in Bellevue Alberta on November 30, 1927. As a young man he worked in the construction industry and traveled throughout Alberta and British Columbia. In 1960 he returned to Bellevue with his young family and lived in the old United Church manse with LaRue for nearly 60 years. Allan worked as the town foreman in Bellevue, in various coal mines, and as construction foreman for Craig’s Construction. His last and favourite career was Crane Operator for Coleman Collieries. Allan was proud to be from Bellevue and volunteered as an air cadet leader; served on the Bellevue Council; and was a volunteer fire fighter and member of the Bellevue Legion for many years. Allan was an avid gardener and loved to sit in the sunshine. He enjoyed taking his family camping at Wasa Lake each summer and also enjoyed travelling with LaRue and hiking with Gary. With the passing of LaRue in 2018, Allan moved to the Edith Cavell Centre in Lethbridge where he was lovingly tended to by the staff and his daughters. Allan will be remembered by everyone he encountered at Edith Cavell for his wonderful singing. The family would like to thank the dedicated and hardworking staff at Edith Cavell for the excellent care Dad received while there, with an extra special thanks to Jennifer, his angel nurse. As well as LaRue, Allan was predeceased by his daughter Karen; his siblings Charlie Ritchie, George Ritchie and Betty Haile; and his great-grandson Spencer Ritchie. At Allan’s request, no funeral services will be held. Donations in memory of the late Allan Ritchie may be directed to the charity of your choice.

ANNA STICKEL, beloved wife of the late Clarence Stickel, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital with family at her side following a brief bout with Pneumonia on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the age of 95 years.

There is no formal funeral by her request. Anna will be laid to rest in a Graveside Service along side Clarence at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, 1210 Scenic Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. and everyone is invited to attend.

Gladys Pearl Strom (nee Harvey), beloved wife of the late, Walter Hugo Strom, passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at the age of 98 years. TAYLOR

Rod Taylor, beloved husband of Yoda Taylor; father of Kajsa (Patrick) Taylor-Reeves and Kalah (Sean) Ginn; Papa to Addilynn Reeves and Solomon and Genevieve Ginn; brother-in-law to Jacklyn (Del) Deleon. He was predeceased by his son Connor, parents John and Esther Taylor; and Uncle Robin Taylor. Rod loved his Hillspring farm and considered it his home until his death. He loved the animals on the farm and often brought baby animals to tell children’s stories at church. He had a passion for baseball and played ball in Lethbridge, at Whitworth College and on the Canadian National Baseball Team. Rod taught at Canyon School in Pincher Creek, Spring Point Colony and Pincher Creek Colony. Loved by his colleagues and students alike; they all remember his practical jokes. He was an avid hunter in Canada, New Zealand and Africa. Rod became a Christian after his son Connor’s death and joined First Baptist Church. His love of God and his care for his church family were an inspiration to all who knew him. A Celebration of Rod’s Life will be held on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 637 Charlotte Street, Pincher Creek, Alberta.
