BULL SHIELDS

JORDAN PATRICK BULL SHIELDS, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully with friends and family by his side at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the age of 39 years.

Jordan is survived by his brothers, Peter Bull Shields, Darcy Medicine Crane and Cory Medicine Crane; his sister, Mary Bull Shields; his biological father, Thomas Gambler; friends and relatives, Gordon & Darlene Spear Chief (Ty), Melvin Spear Chief, Barry Long Time Squirrel, Wilburt Good Dagger, and his brothers from River House. Jordan left many friends grieving his passing throughout Lethbridge and Standoff. He will also be deeply missed by his special little friend, Lucas Jordan Kristjanson, whom Jordan took immense pride in teaching the Blackfoot language to.

Jordan was predeceased by his mother, Lorraine Bull Shields and step-father, Jason Bull Child; his special friends, Marshall (Mousie) Vielle, Gordon Good Dagger, Loni Bull Shields, and many brothers and sisters who have passed before him.

Jordan is remembered by family and friends as being very influential in teaching traditional ways. Jordan loved story-telling, taking adventures all over southwest Alberta and loved going to hockey and baseball games. Jordan’s love for life was contagious and despite everything he went through in his life, he always loved loyally and made sure all his friends had food and laughter in their life. Jordan is remembered as a soft and gentle spirit who always had his bro’s back—no matter what. Jordan had a very special and memorable relationship with his brother Peter and will be missed everyday by his brothers at River house. Jordan’s smile could light up a room and his jokes would hurt your tummy from laughing so hard.

The family extends a special thanks to River House, RSPACE and Anne Fox (Indigenous Liaison at CRH).

Roelina “Lena” Stotyn

1924 – 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Roelina (Lena) Stotyn announce her passing on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at the Chinook Regional Hospital. Mom and her twin sister Minnie were born to William and Anje Williamson on March 8, 1924 on the family farm near Granum, Alberta. A family story is that they were placed in shoeboxes and put on the open door of the oven to keep warm. Mom lived to the grand age of 95, an indication of her strength and zest for life. Mom married Chris Stotyn of Monarch, Alberta, on November 22, 1946, and in their years together raised 6 children: Sharon, Doreen, Sylvia, Calvin, Yvonne and Leonard. She is survived by daughters Doreen Stotyn, Yvonne Peters (Kerry); sons Calvin Stotyn (Elizabeth Matte), Leonard Stotyn (Wanda); grandchildren Nancy Voort (Dan Forbes), Kathy Voort (Keith Hyder), David Voort, Shannon Stotyn (Scott Cameron), Michelle Matte-Stotyn (Jaime McLean), Tyler Kirsh (Ashley), Eric Kirsh (Amanda), Graydon Peters (Sienna Nowak), Nicole Stotyn-Chorman (Mike Chorman), Kristen Stotyn; great-grandchildren Sera Voort-Weisgerber, Skyla Metz, Tannon Calderwood, Ryden and Cooper Kirsh, Brooke and Mia Kirsh, and Mia Edmond. Also left to mourn Mom’s passing are Sylvia’s family: Dave Law, Corinne Dawson, Cherie Duncan, and Daniel Law. Mom was predeceased by her husband Chris Stotyn, daughters Sharon Voort (Tony Voort, deceased) and Sylvia Law (Dave Law); her parents, brother George Williamson, sisters Rita Holt (John, deceased), Hilda Sinnema (Case, deceased), and Minnie Havinga (Jack, deceased). Mom left a loving legacy. She was the heart of our home. Her strength was in her family and her faith in God. She loved music and had a great gift to be able to sit at a piano or organ and play, by ear, without any lessons, she was proud to say. She would often entertain her friends at Blackrock Terrace, accompanying other musicians on the piano, performing her last “concert” the week before her passing. She was a very social, friendly person, and liked to play cards with her friends at Blackrock. Mom, you are our rock. Miss you already. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00pm and 8:00pm, on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at MARTIN BROTHERS WATERTON SUITE, 610-4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30am, on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at ST. ANDREW’S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1818 – 5 Avenue S., Lethbridge, Alberta, with Reverend Hugh Jack, officiating. A Private family graveside will be held in the Monarch/Nobleford Cemetery. Donations in Mom’s memory can be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 1818 – 5 Avenue S., Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 0W6.
