CODD

SHIRLEY CODD, 84, of Lethbridge, passed away October 8, 2019, with her family by her side.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband Ken and her four children; daughter Connie (Jim) of Lethbridge, son Lorrie of Glenwood, son Terry (Linda) of Red Deer, son Ken Jr. (Terri) of Lethbridge; sister Colleen Masson of Lethbridge; one brother-in-law Tom (Sharon) of High River, along with 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents Vede and Audrey Bennion, three sisters and two brothers.

Most of Shirley’s working career was with the Alberta government – first with AGT, then working at the Alberta Treasury Branch bank in Cardston, Alberta for 24 years. She was also a lead hand on the ranch, helping her husband Ken, especially at calving time.

Shirley was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. Her family meals were legendary and she loved to feed all those who dropped by the farm. She was a wonderful friend, mentor, mother, wife, and grandmother.

Shirley will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. May you rest in peace. God be with you until we meet again.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 15th, at 11:00 am at Legacy Funeral Home in Cardston, AB (107 – 6th Street West).

James “Jim” Goodsell

1947 – 2019

James (Jim) Edward Goodsell passed away surrounded by family after a lengthy illness on October 8, 2019, at the age of 71 years old in Lethbridge Alberta. Jim was born on November 29, 1947 in Comox British Columbia. He grew up in the area and served in the Canadian Navy for four years as a young man. He moved to Lethbridge in 1969 where he worked various jobs before becoming a Transit operator for the City of Lethbridge in 1975. He was an active member of the union and always stood up for what he believed to be best for his co-workers and himself. He retired from this position 37 years later in 2012. James is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Catherine Goodsell; sons Jason (Michele) Goodsell, Edward (Amara) Goodsell, Robert (Cari-Jo) Goodsell; daughter Roberta Clarke; five grandchildren, Albert Goodsell, Emily Goodsell, Cheyenne Clarke, David Goodsell, and Ryden Goodsell; sisters Sandra Strickland, Marianna (Ron) Hofmeister; brothers Denis (Anita) Thran, Mike Thran, many nieces and nephews and his mother in law Mary Roberts. He is predeceased by his father George Edward Goodsell (1950); mother Ruby Jane Thran (1988); his brother in-law Ernie Strickland (2009), and his father in-law Alan Roberts (2001). MATTHEWS

Bruce Matthews loving husband to Margareta Matthews, father to Stan Matthews (Lana) and Ingrid Matthews, grandfather to Kyla and Aleena Matthews, passed away peacefully in St. Michaels Palliative Care on October 7th, 2019 at the age of 85 years. Bruce is also survived by his loving English family, Joyce Evans, Derek Lane (Dorothy) and Julie Newman (Gary).

Bruce was born in England in 1934, he traveled the world with the British Merchant Navy prior to meeting the love of his life and moving to Sweden to marry and start a family. Bruce immigrated to Canada with his family in 1975. His passion in life was soccer where he was actively involved in the sport in Southern Alberta for over forty years. Bruce is affectionately known by many as coach.

A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held on October 19th, 2019 at 2pm held at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral home at 703 – 13 Street N.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, HENDRIKA ROSENDAL (née Van den Top) at Bethesda Care home in Picture Butte at the age of 95 years.

Hendrika is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Wilma (Wally) Trost and Margaret (Arnold) Woelfle; her six sons, Dick (Henny), Henry (Val), George (Lil), Winston (Tara), Walter (Bertha) and Albert; 16 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren, one sister and her in-laws.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Brand (2007), one great-grandson, her parents and parents-in-law, two sisters and one brother.

A Visitation and opportunity for condolences will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.

STEVEN FRANK FERRERO

(1981 – 2019)

It is with heavy hearts and deep regret that we announce the passing of a strong, courageous young man stricken with cancer, and taken from his loved ones much too soon. Steven Frank Ferrero, aged 38, was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, but lived in San Juan, Argentina with his parents until the age of 3. His school years were in Lethbridge where he fell in love with sports. He was a natural athlete, excelling with enthusiasm at a variety of sports, particularly soccer and rugby. After graduating he moved to Edmonton where he continued his post-secondary education and broadened his skills through various work experiences. His passion for sports and his big generous heart, filled his life with solid friends and adventures. His multi-lingual skills led him to employment at the Rio Olympics in 2016. From there, a job offer landed him in Mendoza, Argentina. It was there that Steven’s fight with cancer came swiftly and punishingly. He fought fiercely as only a strong vibrant man could, but the disease advanced despite the prayers and hopes of his family and friends. Steven Frank Ferrero finally found rest in the arms of Jesus, on October 2nd in Mendoza, Argentina with his family at his side. He is survived by his loving mother Elizabeth Angela Ferrero, and his devoted brother Michael Enrique Ferrero, both of Calgary, Alberta. He is also survived by grieving aunts, uncles and cousins both in Alberta and in Argentina, and many friends scattered around the globe. Steven was predeceased by his father Mario Ferrero, as well as his maternal grandparents Cecilia and Frank Kaplan, and paternal grandparents Hilda and Mario Ferrero. Steven will be treasured in the hearts of those he touched, forever. As we sorrow in his leaving, we rejoice that he is in Paradise. Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 11:00 A.M.

VAN ROOTSELAAR

Willem Van Rootselaar of Coalhurst, beloved husband of Willemina Van Rootselaar, was called home on Monday, October 7, 2019 to his Lord and Saviour, at the age of 83 years. Besides his loving wife, Willemina, he is survived by his children, Ken (Carol) and their children, Nicole, Keith, and Anita; Marvin and his children, Samantha, Chelsea, and Martin; Reynold (Deb) and their children, Kimberly, and Ross; Marlene Gibb (Max) and their children, Nicholas, Shae, Alaina, and Gage. Willem was the last surviving sibling of seven children. He immigrated from Holland in 1948. Upon arriving in Canada, the family worked in the beet fields in the Iron Springs area. In the fall of 1949, they relocated to Coalhurst, eventually purchasing the farm where Willem lived until his passing. Dad loved tending to his trees, watching the cows and horses graze, old tractors, German Shepherd dogs and chocolate. He and his beloved wife, Willemina recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. The family has been blessed by his example of love and commitment. The family would like to invite all to the Memorial Service and celebration at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at the Lethbridge Evangelical Free Church, 4717 24 Ave S, Lethbridge, with Rev. WILLIAMSON,

Sibbeltje, ‘Sippie’ (Meindertsma), age 94, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019. Sippie was born May 25, 1925 in the Netherlands. After the war, she came to Canada in 1959 to work as a nurse, temporarily. She was then was convinced to stay in Canada by Gerrit Williamson, who also later convinced her to marry him. She was an active member of Granum CRC for many years and continued to after moving to Lethbridge. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and travelling, she went everywhere from an Alaskan cruise to an African Safari.

Preceded in death by her husband, parents, numerous siblings and in-laws.

She is survived by her 3 children; Gerald (Sheila) Williamson, Sylvia (Gary) Goedhart and Yvonne (Joe) Verge and 7 grandchildren, Joey, Taylor and Bryn Goedhart, Laura and Kim Williamson, and Annika and Josh Verge and numerous nieces, nephews and friends, both in Holland and Canada. She is also survived by sister Maaike in Holland, brother Pier in Ontario and brother Cor (Truus) in South Africa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday October 17, 2019 at Granum Christian Reformed Church. Interment to take place before with the family.

Wuth, Fritz Nicklaus

(November 6, 1929 – October 9, 2019)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Fritz less than a month before his 90th birthday. He is greatly missed by his wife, Beatrice; his sons Farley and Brett; his sister Wilma; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings: Claus, Hans, Elisabeth, Grete and Bill. Fritz was raised on a homestead near Cold Lake, Alberta. He had a registered trapline and worked in lumber camps in that area. Migrating to working in the earth moving industry, he built roads, airports, railroads and seismic lines in Alberta and BC. He transitioned into building pipelines, from BC to Quebec; and worked for Flint Rig as a ditching machine operator, millwright and field/plant pipefitter. He met the love of his life, Beatrice Stephenson, in Bentley, Alberta and they married on March 16, 1957. In 1959 they welcomed their first son Farley. In 1963 they welcomed their second son Brett and moved to Pincher Creek. Fritz started as a pipefitter for Wonderly Construction at the Shell Plant. Soon after he signed on with Shell Canada working in maintenance and then operations. He became a Steam Engineer, then an Operations Assistant and eventually the Training Coordinator. Fritz retired in 1984 from Shell and undertook in Denmark the startup of Dansk Oile and Naturgas’ first two gas plants. Upon their return to Canada he went to work for Alberta Sugar in Taber as a Mechanical Supervisor. During this time his association with the Lethbridge Community College began, first as a Power Engineering Instructor and later as a General Instructor. He retired from Alberta Sugar upon reaching the age 65. He continued with LCC until 2009. He loved the outdoors and avidly pursued fishing, skiing and mountain climbing with his family. There will be a Memorial Service held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pincher Creek United Church, 972 Police Avenue, Pincher Creek, Alberta. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Fritz.
