AKUNE
MARTHA AKUNE, beloved wife of the late Yosh Akune, passed away on Saturday October 26, 2019 at the age of 97 years.
Martha is survived by her children Sharon (Bob) Imahashi, Brian (Rhea) Akune, Steve (Cindy) Akune, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Yoshiye (Dick–deceased) Nakata, Hiroko Ikeda, Mariko (Akio) Sato, sister-in-law Haruko Ikeda, brother-in-law Peter Savage, numerous nieces and nephews and her faithful dog Kinu.
Martha was predeceased by her husband Yosh Akune, grandson Michael Akune, sisters Setsuko (Dairo–deceased) Matsugi, Teruko Savage and her brother Roy Ikeda.
As per her request, there will be no service. Flowers and koden are gratefully declined.

BATTY

RITA A. BATTY, beloved wife of the late Clair Batty, passed away at St. Therese Villa, on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the age of 89 years.

Rita will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Alan MacRae (Rita) Batty and Kent James Batty, and her three grandchildren, Jordan, Megan and Sean. She is also survived by her special friend, Caroline Timson.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clair MacRae Batty, her son, Clair Stone Batty and her sister, Verna May Keller.

Rita was born on November 4, 1929 in Medicine Hat and entered the Convent at an early age. She eventually met Clair and the couple was married on June 28, 1948.

A Celebration of Rita’s Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. with Patrick Siedlecki officiating.

VERONICA “VALERIE” JOSEPHINE GAL, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Monday, November 4, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Bill Young officiating.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 – 13 Street North, Lethbridge, AB, on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Albert Sayson celebrating.

A Private Family Interment will be held at a later date where Valerie will be laid to rest with her parents, Margaret and George.

KANASHIRO, ALICE

September 30 1926 – October 26, 2019

Alice Kanashiro (nee Kanna), beloved wife of John Kanashiro (deceased), passed away on October 26, 2019 at the age of 93 years. Alice is survived by her sons: Ron (Tonya), Barry (Sue), Warren (Margaret), Dale (Sharon), and Derrick (Cathy); six grandchildren: Satchi, Noah, Mitchell, Ryan, Zoe and Maya. Alice was one of four siblings born to Chofu and Toshi Kanna. Alice was born in Ignace, Ontario. The family was relocated to the Lethbridge area in 1940. Alice continued her life in the Lethbridge area enjoying time with friends and family. The family would like to thank the staff at Gardenview Lodge and at Chinook Regional Hospital for the friendship and care of their mother. Flowers and koden are gratefully declined. Those who wish may donate to the charity of their own choice. Relatives and Friends are invited to meet with family on Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 10:00 to 10:45 am at the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta, 470 – 40 Street South, Lethbridge. Rita E. Lemire

1940 – 2019

Our Dearest Lord took Rita Lemire to her eternal home. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on October 24, 2019, at the age of 79 years. Rita had just celebrated 19 years with her beloved Gerard Pliez. She will forever be missed and loved by her adoring family and friends. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 pm, on Thursday, October 31, 2019, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta. Anna “Anne” Lilly

1922 – 2019

Mrs. Anna “Anne” Maria Elin Lilly of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Charlie Lilly, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the age of 97 years. Anne was a loving grandmother to Todd (Lyndsay) Walcott and Jackie (Bryce) Steeves and their children. She leaves to mourn her daughter in law Vicie (Tedd) Walcott. Besides her loving husband Charlie, Anne was predeceased by her son Robert. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00am, on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge, Alberta. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am, on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at UNIVERSITY DRIVE ALLIANCE CHURCH, 55 Columbia Boulevard West, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Reverend Scott Dixon, officiating. DUNELDA NESBIT, beloved wife of the late Bill Nesbit, passed away at Legacy Lodge, on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the age of 89 years.

VAN KATWYK

WILHELMINA HENRICA RESINA VAN KATWYK (nee RUWHOF) passed away suddenly at Columbia Age Care, Lethbridge, on October 25, 2019 at the age of 96 years.

She is survived; by her children Joyce Van Katwyk of Zevenaar, Gelderland, the Netherlands, and Peter Van Katwyk (Helen) of Lethbridge; by her grandchildren Eric Van Katwyk (Casey) of Airdrie, and Kristin Cline (Erik) of Lethbridge; and her great- grandchildren Preston and Oliver of Airdrie. She is also survived by her brother Wim and sister-in-law Ba both of the Netherlands.

She was predeceased by her husband Peter Van Katwyk in 1975. She was also predeceased by her brothers Ben, Henk and Piet of the Netherlands.

Wilhelmina had fond memories of her childhood in Aalten, Gelderland. She survived the war years with her family, met her husband in post-war Netherlands, married in 1950 and immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario in 1952. As with many immigrants, she and her husband worked hard, saved and provided their children with material basics and good ethics. After she retired she joined her son and his growing family in western Canada (Calgary, Red Deer, Prince George, Lethbridge). Fiercely independent she always wanted to be helpful and productive. She died while knitting a baby cap for her next great-grandchild (Kristin and Erik’s child is due in December).

A service of worship and praise to God in remembrance of Wilhelmina will be held at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH – 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd West, Lethbridge, on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at 10:00 A.M., with Pastor Lee Loveridge officiating. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. In memory of Wilhelmina, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lethbridge.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

WILMA JEAN VIELLE, 68, passed away in Lethbridge on October 21st, 2019.

A Family Service will be at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Tues., Oct. 29th at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Wake Service at the White Calf Hall, Standoff, AB from 7:00 p.m. all night. The Funeral Service will be at the White Calf Hall on Wed., Oct. 30th at 11:00 a.m. Interment in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
