Richard Chase

1946 – 2019

Mr. Richard Allen Chase of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Alice Chase, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Monday, November 25, 2019, encircled by the love of God, family, friends, and caregivers, at the age of 73 years. ERICKSON

We regret to announce the death of William Reed Erickson of Lethbridge, Alberta, on November 23, 2019, in Taber Alberta. He was 96 years of age at the time of his passing. He is survived by his son Ross Erickson of Boise Idaho, and daughters Jan Mason (Mark) of Austin Texas and Val Walker (Keith) of Medicine Hat Alberta. Reed had 14 grandchildren and many great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Doris and his oldest son Brian. Reed was one of eight children born to Alif Dehlin and Ruby Stevens Erickson. He was born just outside of Raymond, Alberta, but spent most of his childhood and youth in Stirling. He is survived by his youngest sister, Roberta. He completed teacher training and his Bachelor of Education at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, and a Master’s Degree at the University of Montana at Missoula. He met his wife-to-be, Doris, in Raymond, and moved early in their married life to Lethbridge. A teacher and school administrator in Lethbridge and Southern Alberta for all his working life, Reed was also in many respects the “parent” of countless young men and women who were his students and responsibility at school. He taught first at a single-room school at Manyberries, then in Raymond, and, finally, for many years at Hamilton Junior High School and the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. He concluded his professional career as the Principal of the LCI. It was rare to go out in Lethbridge without meeting someone who had been influenced by him or had been his student. He was held in the highest regard by all who knew him as a teacher. As a youth and young adult, Reed was a consummate athlete—excelling in basketball and baseball. He was a starter for the University of Alberta Golden Bears in his college years. Reed also loved music. A gifted saxophonist, he was a member for many years of various dance bands which performed around Southern Alberta, more particularly the Ernie Block Orchestra. At various times he was also an avid curler, fisherman and loved to watch high school sports. With several of his brothers, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, spending most of his enlistment as a Flying Officer. He was the recipient of several medals for his armed forces service. Reed was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities including choir director, scoutmaster, teacher, Bishop and as a member of the Lethbridge East Stake Presidency. He and his wife, Doris, served a mission in the Manila Philippines Temple and, for many years, were workers in the Alberta Temple in Cardston. He was a wonderful husband and father, always caring and considerate of his wife, Doris, and involved in the lives of his children. He was a fantastic grandfather, so much so that more than a few grandsons and great-grandsons bear one or the other of his names. In the summer of 2006 Reed and Doris moved to Martha’s House, leaving their home of more than 55 years. After Doris’ passing and as his health declined, Reed moved to Linden View in Taber, Alberta. Reed was proud of all his children but particularly close to Val in the later years of his life as she placed his care and well-being as a priority in her life. He was a loving man who delighted in his family. He was a great example for all who were lucky enough to know him. We will always miss his amazing memory and sharp wit. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703-13th St. North, Lethbridge Alberta. Friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Sunday, December 2 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. or Monday December 1 from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.

JOHNSON

Rose Johnson of Pincher Creek, beloved wife of James Johnson, passed away peacefully in her sleep and went home to be with her Lord Saviour, Jesus Christ on November 16, 2019, at age 90. Rose is survived by her loving husband James Johnson, children Don (Cherie), Betty (Philip), Jim (Connie), Ken (Suzan), Tim (Dana), eight grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Michael and Tanasia Fewchuk, brothers Samuel and William Fewchuck, sisters Anna, Mary, Ella, Ruth, Elizabeth, Sennie, her granddaughter Sarah Johnson and grandson Dillon Johnson. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday November 30, 2019, at First Baptist Church, Pincher Creek, followed by a reception. McALLINDON

MEL McALLINDON passed away on Monday, November 25, 2019 at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre after a long battle with cancer, surpassing all timelines given to him.

Mel was born in Montréal, QC on December 16, 1939 to James & Mary McAllindon, the youngest of nine children. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Helen; his three children, David (Yordanos) of Dartmouth, NS, Brenda (Steve) Dudas of Lethbridge, Wendy (Fergus) Lynch of Red Deer; and seven grandchildren, Dylan & Maris McAllindon, Ty & Blake Dudas, and Kate, Declan & Emmett Lynch; his sister, Dorothy, of Brantford, ON, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Ed, Kathleen, Robert, Veronica, Rita, Patricia and Joan.

Mel received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of Windsor majoring in Physics and Chemistry, and received his teaching certificate from the Ontario Teachers’ College. He spent the first three years of his teaching career in Nigeria where he taught Physics and married his soulmate, Helen. Three years later, Mel received a posting to Uganda with Canadian International Development Agency where he taught Physics for another three years; however, political disruption brought the family back to Canada.

After spending a year at the University of Alberta to finish his B.Ed., Mel accepted a position at Catholic Central High School in 1973 where he taught mostly Physics for the next 32 years. He organized graduation events, coached badminton and served as timekeeper at football games for many years. He was instrumental in establishing Holy Spirit ATA Local #5 and served as its first president for many years. When a new parish was given the go-ahead for West Lethbridge, he was involved in negotiating the land swap for the site of St. Martha’s Church and the arrangement with the dental clinic that now shares the property. That facilitated fundraising efforts and the new church opened in 1994. He also served as the chair of its first parish council for a number of years until ill health caused him to reduce his activities.

Retirement meant more time to spend on sports activities. There was continuous rivalry with the older grandkids on the golf course, ski hill, tennis court and bowling alley. Papa spent many hours with the younger grandkids in swimming pools, and playing board games, Uno, and mini sticks in the hallways and the driveway. He also enjoyed many wonderful travel adventures, many of them with travelling companions, the Muellers, covering much of the USA and Europe, the Panama Canal, Lebanon, Jordan, the Baltic countries, and New Zealand.

A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Michael Pollard officiating.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. MARTHA’S CHURCH, 355 Columbia Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, November 29, 2019 at 12:00 Noon with Father William Monis celebrating.

POTVIN

From the loving arms of her family, into the loving arms of Jesus. Our beloved Mom went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday November 23, 2019 Mrs. Mildred Doreen Potvin (Johnson) beloved wife of the late Robert Potvin was born June 30, 1935. In 1950 Doreen met the love of her life, Robert, and was married July 16, 1954 and enjoyed 51 wonderful years together. She is the loving mother of Shan (Ed) Pruett, Carol (Charlie) Nordquist, LaReine (Dan) Risling, Robert (Dianne) Potvin, Janice Hubbard (George), Ross (Kerri) Potvin, Rick (Karen) Potvin. She had 26 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Brothers George (Barbara) Wilson and Bill (Rose) Johnson. Sister- in-laws Janet Johnson and Laura Johnson. Along with many relatives throughout Canada, United States and England. She is predeceased by her parents, Sidney and Dora Johnson, sister Lillian Allen, brothers Joseph, Ron and Frank Johnson, daughter Linda Russell and grandson Stephen Nordquist. After working for over 40 years at Woolworth’s Department Store, mom retired and enjoyed camping and travelling with Robert and family. She was a fantastic cook and baker and her Christmas specials will be greatly missed. Doreen was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and granny to all who knew her. She also had a lot of love for her little four-legged friend Lola. Family would like to thank Dr. Leam and staff of the second floor of Good Samaritans West for their love and care for Mom. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Via Church Lethbridge, 2820 18 Ave. N, Lethbridge.

PROCTOR

WILLIAM “BILL” JAMES PROCTOR, beloved eternal companion of Lana Proctor, slipped through the veil to meet his family and friends on the other side; at Milk River Health Centre on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at the age of 93 years.

Besides his loving wife, Bill is survived by his sister, Lorna Johnson; his two daughters, Denise Chaboyer Proctor and Deanna Clarke; his three grandchildren, Candace Clarke, Steven (Aleyah) Clarke Johnsen and Daniel Johnsen; his two great-grandchildren, Haylee & Lily-Ann Clarke Johnsen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, William Malcolm & Isabella May (née Guild) Proctor, as well as his first wife, Helen Vacey.
