Coming off a tournament victory the previous weekend, the Lethbridge minor midget AAA Headwater Hurricanes returned to league play last weekend and picked up three points.
In a two-game homestand at the Logan Boulet Arena, the Canes skated to a 2-2 tie with the Edmonton SSAC United Cycle Bulldogs Saturday and then doubled the Calgary CRAA Gold Sunday afternoon in Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League play.
The tie keeps the Canes firmly in the race for second place in the South Division at 18-3-4, one point back of the AC Avalanche (20-4-1) and seven back of the first-place 22-1-3 Okotoks Oilers.
On Saturday, the Hurricanes got second period goals from Braigh LeGrandeur and Drew Constant as the Bulldogs scored with 2:47 remaining to earn the tie.
Hurricanes goaltender Kaiden Fulton stopped 24 shots in the tie.
Peyton Twigg scored twice for the Hurricanes in Sunday’s win, while Jamieson Franz, Zachary Rajcic, John Vanden Elzen and Vann Yuhas added singles.
Twigg added an assist for a three-point afternoon. Franz, Rajcic, Vanden Elzen and Yuhas each had an assist and two points.
Hurricanes goaltender Nixon Ordway made 24 saves to earn the.
The Canes continue the chase for top spot in the South Wednesday when they host the Calgary CNHA Blazers. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at the Logan Boulet Arena.
The Lethbridge Val Matteotti bantam AAA Golden Hawks are also in action Wednesday when they host the Medicine Hat SEAC Tigers in Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League play at 6:30 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
The Golden Hawks are 7-16-0 and in fourth place in the Ram South Division, three points back of the 7-14-3 Tigers.
The Lethbridge Midget AAA Hurricanes are back at the Logan Boulet Arena Saturday at 3 p.m. when the league-leading St. Albert Nektar Raiders come to town in Alberta Midget Hockey League play.
The Headwater Hurricanes head to Calgary Saturday to take on the CBHA Blackhawks and returns to the Logan Boulet Arena Sunday when the Avalanche pay a visit at 11:45 a.m.
In tournament play on the weekend, the Lethbridge Midget AA Hounds won their tournament with a 6-2 win over Notre Dame in the final Sunday at the ATB Centre.
