IRENE REED
1919 ~ 2013
Irene Frances Reed of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Lindsay “Slim” Reed, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the age of 94 years.
Irene was born on April 21, 1919 to William and Martha Angell of Rose Valley, Saskatchewan. Irene married Lindsay in 1936. They lived in Springside, Saskatchewan where Lindsay worked for Enerson Motors as an auto mechanic. Elsie and Frances were born. In 1948, Enerson Motors moved to Lethbridge and the Reed family followed. They started a new chapter in their lives. Judith was born and the family established a great love for Lethbridge and the Alberta landscape. This was to be Irene and Lindsay’s home for the rest of their lives.
Irene was known for her generosity and willingness to help in any way she could. She was an avid vegetable gardener and great cook. She would feed anyone in her home at mealtime. She loved children and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She baked dozens of cookies over the years which she served to family and friends with soothing cups of hot tea. She was in charge of the cradle roll for Southminster Church for several years. She was also a volunteer hairdresser for Extendicare Nursing Home. In 1986, Irene started knitting finger puppets for sick children at Chinook Regional Hospital. She lovingly created 33,441 puppets in her volunteer career and donated 50,498 volunteer hours. Many children in Lethbridge have a finger puppet in their memorabilia that was earned as a badge of honour for bravely facing a hospital procedure that would make them well.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Alfred Lindsay “Slim” Reed (1995), her father William Angell, mother Martha Angell, step-mother Jessie Angell, brothers George Angell (1967), Norman Angell (1967), sisters Maybelle Opheim (2001), Marion Anderson (2006), son-in-law Eric Lyon (1978), daughter Elsie Stoeckel (1991) and son-in-law Feri Stoeckel (2012). Irene is survived by daughters Frances Lyon and Judith Reed (James Campbell), grandchildren Lawrence Stoeckel, Gwen Reimer (Harv), Charlene Lyon (Daryl Lindgren), and Jennifer Tiffin (Stanley), great-grandchildren Tasya, Lauren, Alexa and Paige, sisters Phyllis Stratford (Ken) and LaVerne Munson (Jack), brother Gary Angell (Yvonne).
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4 Street South with Rev. Jim Lindemann officiating. A family graveside service will be held prior to the Memorial Service.

Vern was born on October 27, 1925 in Morse, Saskatchewan to Edmund and Emilie Wessner.
During his childhood Vern and his Brothers and sisters grew up on a farm with good Christian values, hard work, dedication, honesty and integrity.
His working life began at theCo-op in Hodgeville with his Uncle Alfred Seibel, the manager. In Vern’s later years he enjoyed camping, fishing, checking crops and checking his cattle at local feed lots. Vern always had time for a good cup of coffee and a piece of apple pie, while reminiscing about the old days, price of crops and cattle with his friends and business partners at auction sales and custom feed lots.
Besides his wife Freda, he is survived by his brother, Walter (Betty), and sisters; Adeline (Ken) Ratcliffe, Jean (Ben) Anderst. As well, Freda’s three sons, many nieces, nephews and their families.
