The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s basketball team is rounding their Canada West regular season on home court.
If they have it their way, that’s also where they’ll start the playoffs.
The 8-10 Horns close out their regular season on a four-game winning streak and with a homestand against the 11-7 Thompson Rivers WolfPack tonight at 8 p.m. at the 1st Choice Savings Centre and again Saturday at 7 p.m.
Following consecutive sweeps over the Mount Royal Cougars and MacEwan Griffins, the Pronghorns clinched a playoff spot but with a pair of wins this weekend a home playoff game is possible. With the conference reseeding the top 12 by RPI for playoffs there is still a variety of scenarios that could come to fruition.
Just ahead of the 11th-place Pronghorns are the 9-9 Regina Cougars and the 10-8 Winnipeg Wesmen.
The Pronghorns offence is ranked fourth in the Canada West averaging 89 points per game and sit 13th defensively allowing 90.2 points per game.
Senior guard Kyle Peterson moved in to the top-five on the Canada West all-time assist record books last week. He enters the weekend with 462 total assists split between two years at University of Victoria and three with the Pronghorns. Peterson will also finish his career third on the Pronghorn all-time list for career assists.
Chad Oviatt leads the Pronghorns in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.6 points and 7.4 rebounds a game.
Saturday night will also mark senior night and the men’s basketball team will honour graduating players Peterson and Keanu Funa prior to tip-off.
Both games will also be streamed live on http://www.canadawest.tv.
