The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s and women’s hockey teams closed out their Canada West seasons on the weekend.
Eliminated from Canada West playoff contention the previous week, the Horns faced off with the Calgary Dinos in a home-and-home set.
After losing 5-0 Friday night in Calgary, the Horns returned to Nicholas Sheran Arena Saturday, but were topped 6-1 by the Dinos.
On the women’s side, the Pronghorns dropped a 3-1 decision to the Dinos Saturday after losing the weekend-opener 4-1 Friday night at Nicholas Sheran.
The men’s team finishes the season 5-20-2-1, while the women are 9-16-1-2, both eighth in the Canada West.
On Saturday at Nicholas Sheran Arena, Spenser Jensen gave the Horns a 1-0 lead midway through the first, but six straight Dinos goals – two in each period – paced Calgary to the win.
Ryan Graham scored three goals for the Dinos. Luke Harrison, Kaden Elder and Mitch Cook added one each.
Horns goaltender Jack Burgart made 39 saves.
In Calgary Friday night, the women’s teams were tied 1-1 after the second period before the Dinos scored two in the third to record the win.
Kianna Dietz scored 6:20 into the second period to give Lethbridge a 1-0 lead.
Elizabeth Lang, Sage Desjardins and Taylor Beck replied for Calgary.
Graduating goaltender Alicia Anderson made 32 saves.
