One dead in RCMP shooting

A man is dead following a police shooting Tuesday in Blairmore.
At about 5 p.m. two RCMP officers responding to a call for service tried to stop a vehicle in the parking lot of the Home Hardware store in Blairmore.
A confrontation with the driver ensued, during which the officers fired their guns. The vehicle travelled a short distance and then drove into a ditch. The officers were not injured but the driver of the vehicle died.
The director of law enforcement has been notified and ASIRT, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting and the actions of police. The RCMP will also continue to investigate the events leading up to the confrontation with police.
