In a battle of the top teams in the South Division, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball team earned a split.
The Kodiaks swept the SAIT Trojans 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-21) in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play Saturday night at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
The win came one night after the Trojans blanked the Kodiaks 3-0 Friday and puts the Kodiaks at 18-4 and in a tie for first place in the ACAC South Division with the Red Deer Kings.
On the womens’ side, the Kodiaks upped their winning streak to four games with a 3-2 (25-19, 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11) win over the Trojans.
The Kodiaks won 3-0 Friday in Calgary and are now 8-14.
In the men’s game Saturday night, Carter Hansen had nine kills and five service aces for the Kodiaks, while Michael Hummel and Nolan Moes had six.
Tony Albizzati and Zach Wikenheiser had nine digs each.
Quinn Buchanan had five blocked shots.
On Friday, the Trojans held Hansen to five kills and Wikenheiser had eight digs.
The Kodiak women’s team battled back from a 2-1 sets deficit with wins in the fourth and fifth sets to keep their late-season winning streak going.
Maile Funa and Jamie Brown each had 11 kills and Mack Lewicki hammered 10. Funa also had six blocked shots.
Lewicki and Brown also had 14 and 13 digs, respectively, Sarah Hazen had 12 and Johanna Dixon added 10.
Lewicki and Dixon each had two service aces.
On Friday, Brown led the way with 12 kills and Lewicki had nine digs.
Funa had two service aces.
The Kodiaks finish the regular season Friday and Saturday when the Briercrest Clippers visit the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
Having been eliminated from playoffs last month, the weekend marks the end of the Kodiaks women’s season.
The Kodiak men look to not only lock up top spot in the South Division, but will also gear up to host the ACAC championship Feb. 27-29.
