Atom Tier 3 Hurricanes clinch provincial berth

The Lethbridge KB Heating Atom Tier 3 Hurricanes have secured a spot in the provincial championship next month.

The Canes defeated the Okotoks AT3 Gold Oilers 6-1 in the Zone 5 provincial playdown Monday to clinch a spot at provincials March 19-22.

It capped off a productive four-game weekend that also saw the KB Heating squad earn fourth place in the Central Alberta Hockey League regular season with a 5-3 win over Oyen on Sunday. The Hurricanes will face Duchess in the first round of the CAHL AT3 playoffs.

Lethbridge started the weekend with a 5-5 tie with Redcliff as Diesel Green scored twice and Kaver Kish had one goal and one assist.

Aaron Pan and Liam Cowie scored the other Hurricanes goal, while goaltender Steele Anderson faced 32 shots.

On Saturday, the Hurricanes dropped a close 4-3 decision to Magrath.

Kale Iwaasa, Damon Richter and Nolan Honess scored for Lethbridge and Green had two assists.

Lucas Comchi was in goal, facing 30 shots.

The Hurricanes grabbed fourth place in league play thanks to Sunday’s win over Oyen as Green led the way with three goals and Pan and Easton Fowler added singles.

Anderson earned the win, facing 32 shots.

The Hurricanes wrapped up four games in as many days with their zone playdown win over Okotoks Gold.

Honess had a four-point game on three goals and an assist. Green, Fowler and Kamden Enamn scored the other Hurricanes goals.

Comchi faced 22 shots to record the win.
