They have one more game to play, but the Lethbrige College Kodiaks
men’s volleyball team is headed to nationals.
The Kodiaks swept the SAIT Trojans 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 27-25) in the
semifinal of the Murray Chevrolet Cadillac 2020 ACAC Men’s Volleyball
Championships Friday night at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
That puts the Kodiaks in the gold medal game against the Red Deer
Kings today at 5:30 p.m. and it also earns them the program’s first
berth at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championship,
held this year in in Fredericton, N.B., March 11-14.
In Friday’s semifinal, Carter Hansen led with 11 kills and Michael
Hummel had eight. Zach Wikenheiser had nine digs.
For the Trojans, Riley Grusing led the way with 12 kills and Maddux
Greves added nine digs. Chris Kayser had two service aces.
The Kings defeated the Briercrest Clippers 3-0 in the other semifinal.
On the consolation side Friday, the NAIT Ooks defeated the Kings
University Eagles 3-0, while the Keyano Huskies also blanked the
Lakeland Rustlers 3-0.
Action wraps up today, starting with the consolation final between the
Ooks and Huskies at 1 p.m.
The bronze medal game between the Trojans and Clippers goes at 3 p.m.
before the gold medal game at 5:30 p.m.
